danielost Posted September 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_%28lightning%29 Sprites are large-scale electrical discharges that occur high above thunderstorm clouds, or cumulonimbus, giving rise to a quite varied range of visual shapes flickering in the night sky. They are triggered by the discharges of positive lightning between an underlying thundercloud and the ground. I saw this on the weather channel. They said all of them looklike jellyfish, only tens of miles across. Keel M. Posted September 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2013 I wouldn't liken the phenomena in those photos in Still Waters' link to jellyfish, but they are awesome nonetheless.
