History of Islamic Terrorism

As noted by the Mod, Lilly, this issue is extremely convoluted and perhaps needs a discussion.

Does anyone have thoughts on the evolution of Islamic Terrorism?

Islamic terrorists date back to the 6th Century. its nothing new, its only new to them that don't read History.

Winston Churchill, yep our war time leader as a young officer in the Sudan fighting the Dervish, wrote a book called the River War. where he gives a Historic account of the war, British forces were led by Lord Kitchener. in the Sudan. you might know him as the face on the famous recruiting poster "your country needs you"

Lord H.Kitchener

well here's an account from the book, River War note the year 1899.

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!

Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia

in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many

countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods

of commerce and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the

Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and

refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan

law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as

a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the

faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion

paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde

force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant

and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising

fearless warriors at every step, and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the

strong arms of science, the science against which it (Islam) has vainly struggled,

the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome"

I found this article that seems interesting...

In the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S., the threat of militant Islamic terrorism -- rooted in the Middle East and South Asia -- has taken center stage. While these extremely violent religious extremists represent a minority view, their threat is real.

As pointed out by RAND's Bruce Hoffman, in 1980 two out of 64 groups were categorized as largely religious in motivation; in 1995 almost half of the identified groups, 26 out of 56, were classified as religiously motivated; the majority of these espoused Islam as their guiding force.

To better understand the roots and threat of militant Islam, here's a closer look at how modern terrorism has evolved in the Middle East and South Asia.
