ok, i am really confused. i have been on here maybe a month and i have seen many post that say satanist dont worship satan. then what do they believe. and if satanist dont worship satan then the ones that do, what is the name of their religion? just want to know. thanks

The Satanist in the quote above is, I gather the traditional Satanist, if not it is a bit of a contradiction really, because if they don't believe in god, how can God be the enemy? If there is no God there can be no enemy.

Then there are also Devil-worshiping Cults who are basically Christians who think they're being cool by prefering one character in a book over a more popular one.

The traditional ones I can understand, but the modern ones it confuses me because if you do not believe in God etc.. then why even acknowledge God has an enemy?

They consider God as an enemy, because he is a symbol of ignorance. God is a symbol, as Satan is a symbol also.

He is their enemy because his theistic religions (specially Abrahamic religions), because they are so fanatic. They differentiate between people, believers, and non-believers.

But Modern Satanism, is a humanity religion.

So that's because they doesnt agree with theistic religions.

Satan is a symbol of liberty, and he was the enemy of god.

And liberty is sacred for Satanists, so they took Satan as a symbol for their beliefs.

The American flag is the only symbol of freedom I know. I think Satanist are simply hedonist in belief and practice, and seems to be self serving at its base.

I think there's some confusion about this.

In my understanding, there are no organized groups that worship the deity Satan as far as we know. Whether true Satanism (worshiping the deity) exists, that's been speculated on for years and makes for some very scary stories. Whatever that is, it's been difficult to find people who readily admit they worship the Satan of the Bible and practice actual satanism and it's never really been proven that it happens in any kind of organized manner, to date, deity satanism has only been admitted to by psychotic individuals.

The Church of Satan, is an organization started in San Francisco in the 60's by Anton LaVey. They have been offered IRS tax exempt status as a religious group, but chose to decline the offer. They do NOT worship the deity of Satan, they are self-proclaimed athiest (although that probably makes most athiest roll their eyes). They worship only themselves while also making a mockery of the traditional Catholic Mass and creating a mocking priesthood. Since LaVey died in 1997, their numbers have been drastically reduced and were in-fact dwindling long before that.

And LaVey's group has only been around since 1969, also take into consideration that they've also only had an estimated 10,000 members (perhaps less, they don't make their member list public). Besides, you have no idea how many of VaVey's follwers were on active duty military.

I don't have anything in particular against The Church of Satan, I just think it's kinda silly and dumb to make a mockery out of Catholism to prove some kind of point. I mean they're Athiests, why in the heck would they call themselves a Church in the first place and why perform mock religious services. Don't get it, would be like me going out an buying only rocking chairs for my house, and sawing off the legs when I got home because I hate rocking chairs. Should have just bought a chair in the first place.

I think this is a common mistake here.

I don't believe that Satanists consider God the enemy so much as theistic religions in themselves (And by this I mean all theistic Religions)

Satanists consider religion and god to be no more then an Excuse.

As to why they call themselves "Satanists" though they don't believe in Satan... this is simply because the word Satan actually means "adversary" in Hebrew.

Satanists see themselves as the Adversary of Thiests in general as they give to themselves the things that most religions deny its practitioners. They consider it important to live for the here and now rather then for the hope of an after life.

I am not a Satanist but I can understand their view points, indeed apart from the Ritualisation, there beliefs are not overly different from the average Aethiests.

The Church of Satan will expel you from the Church if you are convicted of any crime. If you murder, you're out. So, the C o S will never have any murders under its name.

That was the old satanism, with the cults and everything.

Modern satanism is not like that at all.

It's an atheist religion, they don't believe in Satan, or God.

They're just against the whole concept of God, that's why it's called "SATANism"

It's not a violent religion, it's just more...like, if someone hits you, instead of showing your other cheek, you hit back.

And that is where you stumbled, "real satanists" and "real religion", who is the decider of what is "real" Satanism? Sounds a lot like 'true Christian' to me. Opposite sides of the same coin are still the same coin to me.

If Satan represents the adversary to God and God represents the antithesis to individuality, making Satan a symbol of individuality then Satanism shouldnt involve any rules except for the rules the individual sets for themself. So if a Satanist wants to yell "I love Satan", there is no rule that says he/she cant and still be a Satanist, especially a rule created by other Satanists who claim to represent individuality.

A Satanist can do whatever the hell they want to in my opinion. That said I have always found the stereotypical North American Satanism to be very anti-Satanic(anti-individuality), trying to impose their view of Satanism on others and frankly not nearly evil enough for the image they portray. I will always be a Satan(individual) but not a Satanist for that reason.

Beg to differ.... there is at least one band that is a satanist band and its lead singer is an active member of LaVey's Church of a Satan. Know who it is? King Diamond.

If it's an "athiest religion" then it's really not athiest at all. In fact, I believe that a satanist would probably take great exception to being called a religion. The church of Satan has declined to be identified as such by the IRS. Which in some way I admire because it shows some sort of integrity on their part. They aren't a religion, therefore they won't take the tax breaks that other real religions enjoy.

Even when I'm diametericlly opposed to something, I don't make a mockery of it, it cheapens ME. I see non-deity satanists as cheap, silly and foolish. I can see why people laugh at them. It's not their beliefs per se, I have no problem with athiests, it's the Church of Satan's actions that are retarded.

I don't think anyone suggested that (for lack of a better term) athiest satanists want to kill anyone. They are in-fact expected to uphold some very strict rules that are against murder.

Actually, I"m a Christian and religious but trust me I'm not freaking out--I'm informed about the Church of Satan, and just see it as oh... silly, but not evil, just rather pointless... it's like be an Athiest or be a Catholic, but don't try to be a backassward version of both which is what the Church of Satan is advocating in a way.

Now, whether there are actual deity worshipping satanists out there is anyone's guess. If there are... they aren't known by anyone outside of their group. Most diety "kill them all" worshipping satanists that have been revealed over the years have been acting individually to the best of our knowledge, and are typically labled as psychotic or sociopathic when they are caught doing something evil.

In my opinion that is a very tired argument that makes little sense. Yes you probably dont run around mocking unicorns but are there people trying to tell you there are in fact unicorns and that these unicorns find some things morally wrong, meaning no one should do these things? Are there people in the government making decisions based on the views of the unicorn believers? When that day comes, we'll see what people think of unicorns.

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Do yo believe Santa Claus has an affect on people, kids especially?

God doesnt exist but his believers do and they just wont shutup with their moral hypocrisy.
