I can't stay away from this thread. :)

I am looking at the Missing Children Website, they have 294 cases for the State of Virginia, for 2011 alone.

Here's the most recent case I have found, this child disappeared 4 days ago:

ROBERT ARTHUR WOOD

I'm looking at cases in my Country. I wish I lived in the US and could make an infinite amount of phone calls, but sadly I'm a student and my semester is very expensive, so I can't afford an expensive phone bill right now, so the number of calls I can make in the US is limited, but I'll try to call 1 or 2 agencies in California before the end of the week, California is a very interesting State when it comes to mysterious disappearances.

Please make calls people, one call a day can change everything.

It says National Statistics.  Does that mean within the U.S. or worldwide.  I think it means U.S. but if that is the case why are their not more showing up on the CM&EC website?

I assume it's US. On the home page, under the quick search for missing children, it says select a state (USA only).

I think you are right, these numbers are National statistics, it probably means that the numbers are for the US only.

800,000 seems a little high to me, but what's scary is that these numbers are from 2002, almost 10 years ago.

The Robert Wood case is a little different. He ran off into the woods when his family wasn't paying attention. Plus he has autism. He doesn't talk & they could have been close to him already & he wouldn't respond if they were. It's really a sad situation.

I knew you couldn't stay away from this thread.  LOL

I saw this little boy this morning googling missing children in Virginia.  He is autistic and they  are searching for the fifth day.  Hope they find him.

California is where some of the craziest serial killer did their nasty.

I found this site before work this morning and I'm wondering, are these numbers within the U.S. or are they worldwide?  If they are within the U.S., why are they not being listed on the CM&EC site?

I don't understand, if there are that many children reported each year, why do we only see a handful of them listed on the CE&MC site.  I think that should be a law.

So, given that information, are the numbers for Virginia still considered high?

I dont think most states enter the info on what they consider to be "Runaways" and VA does. That would make up the difference.

Hmmm, interesting.  I would think if they were runaways and never returned, then they should at least be considered to be endangered runaways.

That may explain though why no one seemed to be interested when I told them the numbers.

I'm curious as to how many will be taken off in the next few months.

I think it's a crying shame that runaways aren't already considered endangered.

Not to be sick, but it must be easier to pick off a runaway for the slave trade than it is to kidnap a kid that is looked after. Even if it was their choice to leave home.. Out on the streets, no one really cares or bothers to look in the authority sense.. That's ripe for a predator.

If a kid is missing, they are missing, and it shouldn't matter why they are missing.

I had some guy try to "take me in" when I was a teenager because he thought that I was a runaway. I wasn't stupid enough to go into his house, but I did manage to a pack of cigarettes off of him. Ha! Ha! Sucker...

I agree with you.  It sounds like the laws need to be changed, if for no other reason, to keep track of how many are abducted.   They could be taken off the list once they turned 18.  At some point they would have to use their identities to get jobs I would think, or get arrested.  Either way, at least they would know how many there are that are actually runaways and how many are something else.

Biff mentioned earlier something about a online petition.  We should see if there is anything we can do/change/sign to make it safer for them.

I have always found trouble and being abducted was one of a few times I could have had my butt in a lot of hurtin'. I'm sure there are others out there that experienced the same things I did.

That's a great idea.  Maybe we should start a thread and decided what we want it to say.
