jonas16 Posted May 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2007 What stuff should i use to do EVP? I heard it's a good way to detect ghosts. Give me some info on EVP Instruments.
Moonlight_Magic Posted May 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) I just use a hand held tape recorder with built in microphone, but im an ameteur and ive only just started experimenting with EVP myself. I shall keep my eye on this thread though as my recorder picks up a lot of back ground noise and noises from the internal motor are also sometimes present. I did get some recordings i thought were EVPs but have to discount them as there is a lot of background noise, they are not very clear and can hardly be heard and the tape was old and tends to distort some noises/sounds whilst its recording, especially if its close to the microphone at the time. To my ears anyway: one appeard to say 'i love you' another seemed to wisper the word 'paper' in a foriegn accent, another appears to say 'help me...please' another appears to say 'its peaceful' and yet another (amidst a whole load of crackling) seems to growl the phrase 'cause i will beat you'. These things are open to interpretation and ive played the tapes back to a few others who either cant hear a thing (other than background noise) or hear something competely different. As ive only just started out with EVP i put my interpretation down to wishful thinking. IE enterpreting words and phrases that were not actually there amidst a random sequence of naturally occuring/background noises. So watching this thread. Sorry not much help. IMO If you're not using a digital voice recorder, you need to put in a new cassette every time. They're pretty cheap these days.

IMO If you're not using a digital voice recorder, you need to put in a new cassette every time. They're pretty cheap these days. let me clarify....I was considering a analog vs digital combo ; in one case I would be calling an analog answing maching to capture any potential background noise from my cell phone by; a:using the voice recorder built into it... b:calling and analog anwsering machine c:calling a digital voice mailbox all of witch are subject to theoretical ITC recording variables that the 10 minutes of dead air I afford each of my three or four "calls to myself for fun" may reveal........agree?..... the analog recording device I would be running concurrently thus conducting serveral possible and potential EVP and ITC objectives ............and yes I have called myself for no reason too...your point IS? halfhandshuffle:Led Zep-nobodies fault-live Edited May 3, 2007 by Barek Halfhand
MasterPo Posted May 3, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 3, 2007 Definately get a digital recorder. One with a USB port to download easy to a PC for analysis. Analog recorders are OK but you get mechanincal noises unless you use an external mic. Tapes can get lost or damaged or just screw up. BTW, ITC is more video than audio and a very dubious procedure at best IMO.

We recently set our doctors up with digital hand helds that have the USB. My job now takes half as long to do. The clearity is unreal. Couple that with a good set of digital headphones and you will have it made. I got my headphones from Ebay after doing some research on different models and I love them. The difference makes life so much easier to hear. With a regular tape handheld you will have lots of background noise and scratching type noises, especially if you reuse a tape more than once. Go with digital all the way. You won't regret it. Edit to add: Good luck with the ghost hunting. be sure to shareyour finds with us!
