The U.S. Justice Department this week filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch Inbev’s (ABI) acquisition of Grupo Modelo. ABI is the maker of the best-selling beer in the U.S., Bud Light. Modelo sells the best-selling import beer in the U.S., Corona Extra.

Of course, best-selling does not equate to best-quality.

I like Bud but not light.  They use to make some funny commercials, remember the frogs.  Always loved the Clydesdale's, bet they are the biggest breeder in the country.  I know Anheuser-Busch does a lot for the St. Louis Zoo.

I live in the land of local microbrews. I could never drink from a can again. Theres nothing like a dark beer poured from a brewery thats in the basement below. The kegs are fresh and aged depending on the brand and there leaps and bounds above these monopolies.

The Justice Department is usually advancing some political agenda or protecting some special interest.  Wonder what the special interest is in this case?

Just drank a few of the new Budweiser lager Black Crown last night, and it was very good. :tu:

Bud light and its ilk are the product of prohibition when Americas got used to watered down beer.  Just my thoughts being a brewer.

Another article related to the AB InBev attempted purchase of Grupo Modelo.

The craft beer industry only accounts for about 5 percent of the $80 billion U.S. beer market -- peanuts compared to AB InBev, the maker of Budweiser and other beers, which commands a 39 percent share of that market.

But Goliath is very, very scared of David. The number of U.S. craft brewers jumped from 537 in 1994 to more than 2,000 as of July 2012, according to The Brewers Association, a national trade group. Meanwhile, Budweiser shipments in the U.S. declined 13 percent from 2009 to 2011, according to Beer Marketer’s Insights, a trade publication, and sales of Budweiser to U.S. retailers in the first nine months of 2012 fell by 6 percent in volume, Bloomberg reported.

Disregard, second time this week that my post ended in the wrong thread.
