Anyone here have an aquarium?

Thought I'd make a thread for those UMers who have an aquarium of some sort.

Ive got an aquarium set up for shrimp. Right now I'm breeding Red Cherry Shrimp. It's a 10 gallon tank, with a fast growing bunch of java moss, black gravel (which they like most), a couple other plants, some shrimp tubes and a log decoration.

There's always a pregnant shrimp or two and I usually come across an empty shell. Great indicators that they're loving the place.

I'm planning on getting some chameleon, red nose Darwin and algae eating Darwin shrimp quite soon. Red Cherry Shrimp are the easiest to look after so I thought I'd go the next level up.

If anyone had any questions or wanted to share their tank details just add to this thread!

Used to have 2 55 gallon tanks....Oscars in both.

Ex wife got them, and current wife does not want one.... :(

That is all I have.

Had a huge Koi pond I made, with a 2 teer waterfall.....We lost that house 6 years ago.

I used to have a 55 gallon and a 49 gallon, but space constraints have forced me to downsize to one 30 gallon. Right now the goldfish from the outside pond are in it since we had to make repairs to the pond last autumn.

I can't wait till they can go back outside and I can get in something a bit more interesting.

Breeding shrimp sounds interesting!

@Sakari ouch that sucks man. That would have been quite the huge setup as well. Can't imagine why someone wouldn't want them tbh.

@Purplos that also sounds like a big setup.

Yeh definitely go for something different. I was just thinking of getting an interesting pet one day and came across shrimp. They've got barely any bioload. So in a 10g tank like mine I could have 100 in there until I should start selling some off. Most people have shrimp as they clean the algae out of their fish tanks.

I have a 160 litre (40 gallons?) tank, currently housing Tetras, Guppies, Mollies, and Balloon Mollies. I'm still a newbie though in the fish keeping industry, so don't ask my advice unless you want to kill your fish (I'm getting pretty good at that, accidental though they be).

Ah awesome. How long have you been doing it for?

Sounds like you've got quite the community going on in there.

I've been at it a few months with my shrimp. I bought the new shrimp I mentioned earlier and they came over from the NT to melbourne overnight. No losses as well. Quite a large container and it only costed $23.50. Was amazed. Bought 24 shrimp which brought the total over $80 so was pretty happy with that.

I got the tank in October, so I suppose it's nearly 5 months now. I'm moving houses soon and was thinking of converting it into a saltwater tank, I've been given a smaller tank to move the fish I've still got. But the tank so far is good. Very peaceful just staring at the fish :)

Whoa a saltwater tank. If you've got the room consider a lion fish, they weren't as expensive as I imagined. I have to agree on peacefulness wholeheartedly.

I'll keep it in mind. I'm a bit apprehensive, I've heard saltwater tanks are tough, but I'd like to try. And I suppose I'm agreeing with your agreement that fish are very peaceful/calming. I can (and have) literally lost myself in the proverbial fish dance.

I can see where that's coming from with saltwater tanks being tough. Just the concept of accommodating fish that live in the sea... It would be rather interesting though. All the best and good luck with it. I don't have that kind of opportunity but I did visit the Melbourne aquarium recently and that, minus the screeching from infants was amazing as usual.

I get a chance to look a shrimps eating and swimming about. See-through shrimp I can look at their insides. Check out the shrimp as well. They'll clean your tank and don't really need to be fed with actual food. They've also got very little bioload. So in my 10g tank it should be able to comfortably support up to 100 of them in there.

I have a 1000 gallon fish pond in the yard with about 20 kinds of gold fish water fall and bio filter.

My cousin has a salt water tank and his dad has one also.they are so nice.once the tank cycles a few times its fine start off with cheap fish like minnows to start the cycle of the tank.

Gah, I wish... unless my fish bowl with one betta in it counts?

What I would really love is a tank of moon jellyfish or a koi pond.

i had a 55 gallon tank at one time with fan tailed guppies, mollies, platties, swordtails, and tetras(and a few more types that i forget their names).. as well as snails and shrimp. i kept live plants too because they are far better than fake plants and at a comparable price. i loved it when the new babies came and raised many generations in my tank. sadly though i moved and had to take it down and ive just not been able to get it back up as i need to buy a new base for my tank as i repurposed the old stand. one day soon though i shall get it back up and running.

I have a 3 gallon tank with Glugg in it- hes a lovely pewter purply-cobalt with brilliant scarlet in his fins betta fish. Got a tube heater, little filter, a few fake plants, a moss ball... And algae that just keeps coming back, lol. He seems happy though, bubbles on the surface and all his fins are lush.
