Officials with the Centers for Disease Control have confirmed that a person in Dallas definitely has the Ebola virus. Tuesday's official determination makes the Dallas patient the first diagnosed Ebola case in the United States.

Hmmm....didn't see this coming after they started flying patients all over the world, did I?

I'll give you one other post to read the link and figure out why flying in patients has nothing to do with this...

I already knew but decided not to turn this thread into a joke so snipped my comment. Edited by OverSword

He became symptomatic about 4 or 5 days after returning. They don't mention how many members of immediate family could be affected, nor whether he is a business man that could have been walking around shaking hands with folk on a regular basis. Also, when someone returns from a trip people come by to see them in the following week to welcome them back and usually hug them at the very least, if not kiss them on the cheek too, if that was the case here, there could be more than another 2 or 3 cases.

I hope that he didn't infect anyone else. Though I doubt we are that lucky.

Unfortunately you're probably right.

Just saw this on CNN, he was symptomatic for a total of 4 days before he was placed in isolation. Add to that the Ebola virus can survive outside a host for up to 2 days and it doesn't just become who he had contact with but everything he had contact with that needs to be known to prevent transference.

Wow! Great conspiracy theory. Killed two birds with one stone!

Well the U.S. does have 2 million people per day flying through its airports without any health screening. If I was a suicidal terrorist, this would be a decent way to infect the U.S. There is even a nice TSA agent that will pat you down (and probably a few thousand other people).

They say this individual poses no risk to others, but let's hope any other residents/visitors seek medical treatment in a timely manner as well.

To be fair they'd say that regardless to not spread panic

Who knows? They sound pretty certain that he was not exhibiting contagious symptoms or anyone had contact with his bodily fluids, before he was admitted.

So why did he go to the hospital? Maybe feeling bad and didn't want to take any chances?

But lets remember, ebola is spread through contact with contaminated bodily fluid, which means its probably quite unlikely that he had infected anyone in the initial 4 febrile days.
