No way of repudiating this idea imo, but there are plenty of ideas that have that characteristic. Meanwhile, carry on as before.

yes and it is owned by T-mobile

ultimately all we will have are ear-buds, multi-colored light boxes with touch screens with chatting software, we will only be talking to simulated robots that respond to what we 'like' and intelligently advance and digress with us as we change perspectives/moods and all we will have to consume is Starbucks coffee and muffins...

Or we could just be fish in a pond, a universe in a snowglobe, characters in a book, a really bad tv series, a dream, a kid's science project, or even maybe a zoo but it doesn't really matter because I want the Matrix 4 and 5 to be a reality. (I still don't understand how I can hate a movie so much that I enjoy it but hey it never hurts to have secret guilty pleasures).

Yes, we are all fake, however the people on the outside watching us are real.

I've always really liked this idea. Check out the work of Oxford professor Nick Bostrom http://www.simulatio...com/matrix.html

You like the idea of being synthetic ? That seems artificial !

What's the point of wondering whether the reality we experience is simulated/artificial or not?
And if it is, who is the one that simulates it then?
Anyways, I think such a thing is not possible. Just because there are limits in our universe does not mean we live inside a computer programm or something like that.
Lets not forget that we do not fully understand the laws of our universe and we probably never will. The limits that apply to the physics of our universe probably play an important role to the stability of it.

I've always felt, even if all this is not a simulation, it acts like a simulation anyway, so I don't really see the difference.  We sometimes say the universe is "naturally occurring" as if the universe is gooey biology.  It's not. The universe is made of units or bits which follow rules of behavior, and we don't know what the units are or where the rules come from, or how the units follow the rules.  And all this stuff the universe is behave according to mathematical equations which act as algorithms.

We may think we are independent of this mysterious impersonal mechanism, but we are constructed of it.  We are parts of the machine. What function of the machine do we provide? Probably nothing, as the machine is the primary mechanism, and what it produces are byproducts and unimportant to the mechanism. The machine continues to function with no purpose other than its own operation.

I just think "computer simulation" and "naturally occurring" basically amount to the same thing. Do we need a programmer in either or both cases? I think not. Is the existence of a "naturally occurring" universe without a cause any more difficult to comprehend than a "computer simulation" without a programmer?

If there is a programmer, what would be the difference between this and our concept of God?

Some people watched Capricorn One and it convinced them that the Apollo Moon Missions were faked.
Hollywood movies seem to have an influence on people.

It's good to have some skepticism so you won't be gullible & naïve.
But to much skepticism can make you narrow minded to extraordinary possibilities.
