The ugly face of the BDS movement

I blundered across this one .. reported by the Catholic News

.....

“The SRC (studen representative council) apologises without reservation to anyone offended by recent demands made by us regarding Jewish students,” the statement said. “Once more, we repeat our position, Israel is an apartheid state that should be fully isolated; on this point we will not concede.

“If there are any students, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, even atheists or any other that is funded by the apartheid state of Israel and its institutions they must not be students at DUT. If there are any, they must be immediately deregistered. Our campuses will not be breeding grounds for apartheid.”

I don't know what the students at Durban University are learning, but it clearly doesn't include concepts such as Irony or Hypocrisy.

Apparently these gentle souls have decided that Israelis are evil and must be pushed off the land. One must assume that the acts of the Palestinians are acceptable in their world view. I expect these kinds of movements to continue gaining momentum. Backing a dangerous animal into a corner isn't the wisest course but people like this live in a world of their own - a world where what they "feel" is more important than the reality of the situation. It will be interesting to see how the world reacts if Herzog wins and basically bends over backward for Obama and Abbas.

I suppose the following part, from your article. "In response, Vice Chancellor and Principal Ahmed Bawa called the "outrageous" demand "a deep violation of... every human rights principle." wasn't something you were interested in acknowleding, nor accepting and doesn't fit too well with your personal agenda does it?

Damn, it would have been a complete propaganda success if, for example, "a Principal by the name of Ahmed Bawa accepted the Students requests and immediately sprung into action by demanding security guards escort the Jewish students off their premises"

1 Much like the israelis are doing to the palestinians?

2. Or more likely could it be they view the acts of the israelis towards the palestinians as unacceptable?

3 With good reason and south africans would know what happens when you act as an arpatheid state. Israel is edging ever closer to it. SA had black/white roads where Israel has Israeli/Palestinian roads for example.

4. The world would rather see peace then another war which you seem to want.

But as for the uni students, they went way overboard.

It's the same, tired old accusation Degen. I support the people of Israel and feel they have every right to possess the land they inhabit today. I believe in biblical scripture about their claim to the land and I also believe that this war you mentioned will happen... no doubt about it. But when you (like many others before you) say that I WANT or look forward to this war, then you are making an unfounded accusation about my character just because we disagree. That is uncalled for. Those students simply reflect the growing chorus of voices being raised against Israel. I think it will continue to grow until the world community sanctions Israel and forces them into a bad deal with the Palestinians. I wonder who among those here who support the Palestinians will acknowledge their error when the Palestinians continue shooting at Israel even when they have agreed to stop? Would you? Would you call it injustice if the Palestinians broke a peace agreement and began shooting rockets again?

The hypocrisy from you is astounding.

"You (and others) believe Israel is guilty of mass murder and you cannot or will not even entertain the possibility that they are acting reasonably to the attacks made against them. The logic usually follows that: Israel is illegitimate, have no right to be on "Palestinian land" and therefore anything the Palis do is okay because they are "occupied"? Is that an accurate statement of your belief?"

The above is another one of your little gems that im still waiting for you to prove. They are all unfounded accusations you have labeled against me and others but i suppose you must think those were called for? How disingenious you are.

Actually, I found it VERY encouraging, BRD. However, my article was highlighting the racist and apartheid stance of the Students Union. The Vice Chancellor is not, as far as I can tell, a member of the Students Union, and does not speak for them. Otherwise I would have included that part of the article (which I DID post for all to read for themselves).

Having said that, and whil'st glad of the VC's comments, I note that no further action seems to be planned against the Students Union leadership. Nor is there any motion to force them to retract this policy.

Imagine if a Students Union in the UK stated that all African and Middle-Eastern students must sign a pledge confirming their belief in Israel's "right to exist", or be "de-registered" ? Not only would the SU leadership be suspended from the university themselves, but they would be arrested under the Race Hate legislation. Indeed, the actual Students Union organisation might be deemed to be operating contrary to the Universities constitution, and disbanded.

I've seen you demand proof but I haven't seen you bother to DENY the charge. Your comments about Bibi and Israel in general put you into a group here at UM that have shown themselves to be anti Israel at the very least. So deny it if it isn't true and I'll think better of you!

You found it very encouraging did you? Funny that, your title mentions the BDS movement and your OP aligns the Univerity to it. Must be the small print and the fact I may need glasses but I just couldn't find any encouring remarks ya know! Which brings me to the following sentence, "The Vice Chancellor is not, as far as I can tell, a member of the Students Union, and does not speak for them. Otherwise I would have included that part of the article". Now, what this tells me is that you are not at all interested in discussing any positive actions towards Jews only the negative, as is predictabily obvious from all your biased posts.

What actions against the Students do you expect LOL? They retracted from their religiously orientated statement and turned it into a political statement. It's not the first and won't be the last time where University students have promoted action against oppression and discrimination in the world.

What a pathetic response. Im meant to deny your lies to appease you? I shouldnt have to deny lies from YOUR mouth that YOU cant prove. Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. You are nothing more then a coward. .

You do this all the time with anyone who disagrees with you and when they call you on it you cower away with your tail bettween your legs. Be a MAN and admit you are wrong for a change.

Awww you're just being mean and unfair now, RBD.

I was commenting on the fascist and apartheid nature of the Students Union policy statement. My OP mentions the University, but only in the context of the students union (or SRC, as it calls itself). The VC stated publicly that the university - as an institution - does not follow the SRC's policy statement, and repudiates it. However - and this is a key point - absolutely NOTHING has been done about it within the SRC. It is still SRC policy. (or a policy statement, anyway).

Presumably you can recognise the irony in that the SRC's statement does NOT promote action "against oppression and discrimination"... it actually CREATES an environment of oppression and discrimination. If you are an Israeli, you are not allowed to study at the university. (strictly speaking, it says if you are funded by the Israeli State or its institutions you are banned, but that's a somewhat fine line to draw.). THAT is discriminatory and apartheid.

It's also a clear expression of the attitudes that are acceptable to the anti Israel crowd. They don't even realize (or care) that they are becoming what they speak out against.

It's funny to read your comments about fascism and apartheid while the Govt of Israel are adopting these same principles. They're even trying to legalise some of their discriminatory Laws. Netanyahu in late 2014 declared he would be supporting a bill declaring Israel a Jewish State for example. According to Netanyahu and the Party he represents, Likud,

“Israel has always been a Jewish state, but all citizens have equal rights under law, regardless of race, gender or religion,” the prime minister told the Likud faction. “However, only the Jewish people have national rights in Israel, and that needs to be anchored in law. I will make sure this bill passes.” Link

His ideas are obviously a common belief amongst Jews considering they just re-elected him and his Party. How about the "Law of Return" which grants all Jews in the world the Right to automatic Israeli citizenship based on jus sanguinis?

So yes, lets not bother with the apartheid ideals of the re-elected PM of Israel and let's concentrate on a small group of students living at the a$$ end of the world. :P

From OP Link:

A student group from Durban University of Technology (DUT) called for all Jews to be expelled from the school, because of their potential stance on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

They should be banned simply for the POTENTIAL for having an OPINION these little turds don't like?? That is pathetic, are these University students or village idiots?

My vote? Idiots.....

So if he's got you on ignore, then it's got a lot more to do with it then simply "they disagree with me". Have you considered your personality?

BRD I RARELY use that term. Most of those here who vehemently call for Israel to succumb to the demands of the Palestinians I believe truly desire justice for the Palestinians. I don't think they hate a Jew for being a Jew. The problem is that they have plenty of evidence that the Palestinians are teaching their children to do just THAT and they overlook it. It's as though anything the Palestinians do is ok since they are "occupied". That isn't justice, it's taking sides willingly and hoping for an outcome that would literally cause the death and displacement of thousands if not millions of people in Israel not to mention a potential regional or even global war.

The first thing AT ever said to me was to say Iwanted to see the millions of Israelis murdered in their beds.

If he hasn't put me on ignore for my reply to that, he's not blocking people who call him out either.
