Robots trained as carers and security guards

At first, Linda doesn't seem like the sort of carer I would want in my old age. She's completely silent, never smiles, and hasn't got any arms.

But experts believe that Linda, a £25,000 robot who resembles a human-sized chess pawn, could be the perfect solution to one of the biggest hazards facing elderly residents in care homes: falls.

Exactly. But numerous tests have already proven that people in general do not fully appreciate a robot looking like Linda.

A robot has to look more humanoid without resembling too much like a human.

This is too basic to have in the home. And this robot is also completely redundant.

More simplistic sensor systems to track elderly throughout the home are already possible. You just place them around the home and then they send an emergency signal when the object has not moved enough for a period of time. It's way less expensive then this pretty useless robot.

A robot needs to be able to interact more, especially for elderly. Take Siri from Apple for example. This could be acceptable. Something that can arrange what the elder person wants, within the restrictions of this person's health.
