Armed soldiers have been stationed in Whitehall amid fears that terrorists will try to attack ceremonial guards in the wake of shootings in Canada.

The soldiers, who are armed with machine guns, have been deployed at the entrance to Horse Guards Parade where thousands of tourists gather every day to witness the Changing of the Guard.

We have had armed Soldiers and Police for a long time but its not usually advertised.

Not in public, soldiers are not allow to have any guns when in public.

However changing of the guard, they always had armed soldiers in changing of the guard, the rifles are loaded i believe

So the Soldiers guarding Buck House are standing there with empty rifles, and the Police at Heathrow have toy guns,Come off it and wise up, my nephew is a Policeman and he has a gun.Times have changed since the terrorist attacks...U.K. Police don't go around brandishing guns like the American/ Australian/Canadian and other forces. OMG soldiers in the UK have guns!!!

There is a small Home Office complex not far from where I live. You quite often see armed soldiers at the gate. I guess it has something to do with who or what is present at the time.

Why it is nice to think that we don't need armed soldiers or policeman guarding key places, it is not always practical.

There's not enough soldiers or police, in most countries, to guard all it's soft targets.
