The whale's enormous tale disappears below the water as a surfer paddles nearby Surfers making the most of the waves off Bondi Beach had an unlikely pair of companions. The group were joined by a southern right whale and her calf who were spotted just 50 metres from the beach, frolicking in the water. Several whale species migrate up the Australian coast every year to calve. Humpbacks in particular are often seen near the beach as they head to warmer seas. go
Kagit Posted August 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2008 Whoa! I would be in terrified awe if I had been in the waters that day. As fantastic, and usually peaceful [i've never heard a horror story at least] these creatures are, the sheer size is just mind blowing...
goalienan Posted August 1, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2008 Great pictures. I too would have been awed to see them. What's unfortunate is that the humpback is a target for the whaling industry...
