CINCINNATI - Four goat heads were left on porches and nailed to a homemade cross at a Catholic church here, but police remain puzzled about who did it more than two months after the incidents.

Detective Charles Zopfi with the Cincinnati Police Department said he did not believe the incidents involved satanic activity, and four shoppers who bought goat heads at a local specialty super market were interviewed.A piece of packing material found on one of the goat's heads was specific to the packing material used at the market.

"The interviews checked out and nothing (unusual) was noticed," Zopfi said.

"The interviews checked out and nothing (unusual) was noticed," Zopfi said. Two others shown in videos from the store could not be identified, but Zopfi said they were not under suspicion. "We could tell they were buying other items that made it look like a legitimate purpose."

Though goats' heads are associated with satanic rituals, they also are used in Caribbean, Indian, Nigerian, and other ethnic recipes.

Several of those who were interviewed were aware of the crime, which is a misdemeanor, Zopfi said.

"Most of the people were taken aback that somebody would do something this odd," he said.
