I love any fiction to do with witches, ghosts, the occult (mainly), The devil and so on...

perfect examples being Stephen King's short story Jerusalem's Lot

a great deal of H.P Lovecraft also

I just wanted some other suggestions along similar lines

I've been reading a handful of spooky smut recently if you like that sort of thing.

Kim Harrison writes some decent stuff, not really smutty, more of a powerful women sort of thing. Brian Lumley writes some interesting stuff, lots of science vampirish style. I'm reading one of his right now that's not that, it's an odd alien transmuting a part of the world and effing with some people kind of weirdness, and it's pretty good so far.

Do the Kim Harrison books.Do them in order.Theyre about a witch called Rachel Morgan.Shes a detective, who's partners are a vampire and a foul mouth pixie.I love it.

Im also particularly fond of the Pendergast series by Lincoln and Child.

Not occult per se,but he comes across some mighty weird stuff.

He's an FBI agent ,who takes only bizarre cases.

Born and raised in Louisiana ,in a family with some criminally insane characters.

The first book,Relic, was made into a movie, with his character removed.FAIL .Awesome series.

I love him.I named one of my cats after him.

I know you mentioned fiction, but "The Carver Effect" is a really good book if you can find it.

What about the all-time Queen of Occult, Anne Rice?

I have only read a couple of Dean Koontz books because there is only so much I can take of scary!

But he is really good. He pulls you into his books and holds you there, in suspense, in fear, in intrigue, in horror, in hope.

I thought about her too.

I think Dan Brown is interesting too.

I finished up the Nightwatch series by Sergei Lukyanenko recently, and that was pretty good.

I recommend trying out Peter Straub. He has collaborated with Stephen King a few times and has a similar style. I really liked "The Throat" and "A Dark Matter"

Well old Ann Rice is ok ,but the new stuff....wtf.

If you like old stuff, reading Salem's Lot is worth it,also Ghost Story .

And what about Clive Barkers Books of Blood. Those are very lovecraft-esque.

He wrote a ton of books long before Hellraiser came out.

The only short from a book of blood, that im sure was made into a movie, was Midnight Meat Train.

Hellraiser,Re animator, and From Beyond ,I believe all started as manuscripts .
