Does anyone remember the conjunction a whiler back that was supposed to destroy the earth - never happened did it, why do people say these things, is it cos they want ten minutes of fame or something?

Some people seem to seek publicity by claiming the world will come to end all the time.

There was a planetary alignment on May 5th, 2000 that some people thought would doom earth due to the compounded gravity. Some religious nuts thought that it was the sign of the antichrist.

Space.com had an artcicle last year on that alignment. CLICK HERE
