I am sure many of you here are familiar with Peter Singer. What is your opinion of him and what works do you like and dislike about him? Obviously we read a lot of his stuff in my moral philosophy class and I agreed with some things but other things I thought were ridiculous. He has been brought to my attention again and he perfectly states how I feel about capitalism...
"Capitalism is very far from a perfect system, but so far we have yet to find anything that clearly does a better job of meeting human needs than a regulated capitalist economy coupled with a welfare and health care system that meets the basic needs of those who do not thrive in the capitalist economy."

Although I'm not familiar with Singer, that I know of, I have a habit of not paying attention to the author sometimes when I read articles. I have to agree with what you said about capitalism. Its not perfect but try to find something better.
I think you can judge a society on how it takes care of its most venerable members basic needs.
