Nearly half of the squatters in London are Romanian, prompting fears of widespread vagrancy across the country when border restrictions are lifted next year.
Figures from the Met Police revealed that 41 Romanians have been prosecuted or cautioned for living illegally in homes in the capital since anti-squatting laws came into effect last September.
This represents 45 per cent of the total of 92 people caught breaking the law in London in the past six months.
