Bioshock

343 Guilty Spark

Recommended Posts

Wow, I have just watched the "hunting the daddy video" and was awe struck at how the characters seem to react to the environment. The little near the end of the video is scarily realistic and the way the bed and other objects are moved and how much detail like the lighting. Also the way that the teleportation in the game apparently works is very sweet, blowing up into a bloody cloud and reforming somewhere else. :tu:

I wasn't to sure about this game at first but seeing the way things are turning out, it may just be on the list of "to buys" before Halo 3.

If this thread has already been done sorry, but I couldn't find it.

It looks like a cool game but I expect it to bomb nobody will buy it, i will give it a try because the developers tagged it to be like System shock 2 which is the best PC and in general FPS in history

I know what you mean, it doesn't seem to have the air about it of a record breaker. But to me neither was Gears, but now I would class it as one of my favourite games.

But going by what videos they have released so far for Bioshock looks amazing, as long as no major changes happen from now till release day it will be a definite buy for me.

E3 is not gone, just toned down to a much smaller size.

I'm not really interested in this though. Mass Effect has stolen my attention.

BioShock Hands-On Preview

BioShock begins with a non-interactive cutscene, a surprising choice for a game that purports to be about personal moral choice and contextual storytelling. Then again, perhaps it is not so strange. While from a gameplay perspective it might be largely concerned with tactical and moral leeway, thematically it is about a loss of control. It is about what happens when idealism, ingenuity, and creativity are set free from the shackles of financial and ethical obligation. It is about a society which has plunged over the cliff, but which is still in its death throes, desperately and hopelessly clinging on and trying to delay its inevitable demise.

For the player, it is mostly about discovery--a slow, dawning discovery that is constantly being informed. For this reason, it is difficult to discuss what makes BioShock compelling without referring to specific environmental and narrative elements in the game, but I will attempt to avoid particularly crucial spoilers without warning.

BioShock's introductory cinematic, already in a first person perspective, notes that the game is set in the mid-Atlantic in 1960. It opens in a commercial aircraft just moments before the plane hits heavy turbulence and plunges out of the sky and into the ocean. The player is given control at that point and, after swimming to a nearby lighthouse, watches the ruined plane sink down below the ocean's surface.

"Who knows? Maybe we'll see that plane again," mentioned Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine, who introduced the game before setting the crowd of assembled journalists loose to play through the game's first few hours.

Good read! Rest of the preview at the link. First day purchase for the PC version for me.

The demo is now up on Live. I'll begin downloading it shortly. It's pretty big, at 1.35 gigs, and EVERYONE is downloading it, so it may take awhile. Apparently the Live server went down earlier because of the volume of people downloading it. Should be awesome, though.

When I eventually get a 360 to go with my Wii this is a definate purchase for me. I have read numerous previews and they have all been glowing. I personally wish to see Irrational finally make a game that is a real commerical success not just a critically acclaimed game. All their games have been critically acclaimed but sales have never matched that and they definately deserve it.

OH MY GOD, IT IS?

Crap, I'm at my dad's house with 56k and no 360.

I did just see a commercial on TV where the character made a bunch of cool little flying buzzsaws and attacked a Big Daddy and one of the little girls.

I stayed up until 4:30 am just to wait for the demo to finish and play through it. It only took 2 hours for me to download it.

Let me tell you guys....this game is nothing short of perfect. Even though it's only a small taste of what's to come, it's still amazing. For once, we get a game that not only lives up to it's hype, but possibly surpasses it. Everything about it is incredible. It's a pretty short demo for being such a massive download. Just over a week until it comes out though! I really can't wait now.

Damn. It'd be nice to know if any places near me were selling it already. I haven't been this excited for a game since Resident Evil 4. I'd do anything to get my hands on a copy TODAY.

somebody suggested too use this tactic

if I can give a useful tip to those calling stores:

don't ask:

" Do you know if Bioshock is available for purchase? "

make this steps:

:

PLAN A - say " I'd like to know if you could please sell me a copy of Bioshock ". If you get a YES for an asnwer, then RUN and buy it. If it doesn't flow that easy, then on to:

PLAN B - If answer is " No, only next week" , then you tell the guy this whole TRU in houston story and that you have proof of that happening ( right click the pics in this thread) and that you demand the game being sold to you or you'll go and file a complain about TRUs not treating consumers equally and that you'll call all newspapers and gaming sites to let them know the terrible mistake that took place in houston and everywhere else were the street date was broken.

don't be unfriendly though, :P

sounds like it could work, how its like unfair other customers are getting favorable treatment and we should get the same treatment also

another lucky son of a gun got his copy early don't mind the copy of advent rising its an inside joke.

:angry2: man so far on neogaf alone 6 people got a copy who knows how many else got there copy and many people have said that some stores are getting there shipments in tomorrow or in two or three days, so there is a possibility more people will get a copy early. But what is getting me the most is no PC version @#$^! Despite the fact PC games exposing console game prices and some time value we get pushed aside again no demo and no leaks I wonder if any PC version has been shipped yet!

I checked my local TRU...nope. Didn't have any in yet. I know the guy I asked was BSing me because he didn't even know what console the game was on. The TRU warehouse is only a mile away from the store, though. Perhaps I should break in? They're bound to have some there, haha.

Someone at neogaf pointed out the Bioshock commercials are saying available now and the part that said released on 8-21-07 is not aired. So maybe we have a stealth early release on our hands and the word hasn't gone out to retailers yet who our holding out on us.

Man knowing the game is out now i can't play any other games anymore i was all excited playing Neverwinter Nights 2 building a wizard/pale master for the first time early today. Now I just can't play knowing Bioshock is out.

Apparently the game story revolves around Ayn Rand and Objectivism, wow a video game tackling philosophical subjects I wonder how much of the story will just go over our heads.

And Ashigaru even though we are upon the age of high speed internet and online gaming the best selling game up till this (X-Box 360, PS3, and Wii) generation were single player games.
