Anomalocaris Posted October 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2015 Mysterious South Australia geoglyph wiped off map IT’S as enthralling as any ancient legend, but the mystery of South Australia’s Marree Man is far more modern and in danger of being far shorter lived than folk figures before it. ChrLzs Posted October 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2015 T'was pretty well known it was fading out - here from 2013.. http://www.abc.net.a...etching/5069720 ...there are still traces, and it could be re-dozed pretty easily, but as it is a recent 'work' (and some evidence suggests it wasn't even designed/done by an Australian, let alone an indigenous one..) it's hard to argue that it has any significant cultural value except as a tourist drawcard. As for it costing $.5m to redo.. that's laughable. A bulldozer and a GPS for a day, maybe... like they say in the comments, it was probably a roadworker/contractor paid with a slab of beer.. (maybe a second slab to keep quiet).

They called for prosecution of the people behind it when it first appeared, which is completely reasonable with their beliefs.
back to earth Posted October 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2015 These pricks are like the ones that push the 'ancient Aboriginal / Egyptian' link ... they do a disservice and a disrespect to Aboriginal culture. I have see , first hand, similar authentic works .... they are no where near that size, were made from (easily) removing 'peat' from underlying flat sandstone formation. and were not to scale or proportion .... but still amazing !
