Still Waters Posted January 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Scientists say the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, came as low as the M4 corridor last night - and there will be an even better chance to see them tonight. The natural light display, which usually takes place in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, may have been seen in the early hours by stargazers in southern Britain. http://uk.news.yahoo...51.html#ocx3bgL I hope you'll be able to see them

stevewinn Posted January 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) anyone been watching stargazing live on BBC with Pof Brian Cox and Dara O'Brian. its been focusing on the Northern lights. i'll have a lookout tonight to see if i can see anything. If you have been watching stargazing live have you been helping them find distant galaxies? done a few myself but found nothing. if you feel like helping out in finding galaxies go to this website. http://spacewarps.org/ or http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/b019h4g8 Edited January 10, 2014 by stevewinn
moonshadow60 Posted January 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2014 I'm in Maine, in the US, and last night they were very visible here starting around 10 PM. I've seen them several times when we lived on the farm. It was far away from light pollution there.

carolwales Posted January 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 11, 2014 Can someone help me please. I live in South Wales, UK. Last night I went out to the forest heading north where it was really dark to try and see northern lights. I parked up in a few locations but didn't see anything. I was driving down a forest road about to go home and ahead of me saw a very pale pink and a bit of blue patterned sky (no green) and heard what sounded like fireworks going off. I stopped my car and got out and viewed/listened for a few minutes. If it had not been the forest and 1.00am I would have thought someone was having a party because it sounded so much like fireworks. I didn't manage to get a pic. I have trawled the web for any information but cannot find anything.... I am no doubting myself that I saw/heard it!! Any help/advice greatly appreciated.
