Morrisseysolarenergy Posted November 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2011 Solar PV is widely used across Europe, with the largest concentration being in Germany which has a climate comparable to ours. Solar power depends on intensity of light, not necessarily direct sunlight. So, your solar panels will be producing clean electricity, even on cloudy days. itsnotoutthere Posted November 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2011 Let me guess....you work for or run your own solar power company. Big mistake. Nuclear. clean, reliable, dependable, proven. I rest my case.

somelier Posted December 1, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 1, 2011 solar pv works on irradiance , so when its overcast it doesn't work and they are the least efficient ''clean energy' That's absolute rubbish. I have a solar panel on the top of my motorhome (RV). It works fine when its cloudy. It's the brightness of the light, not necessarily sunlight. In fact, when it's warm, it works better when the sky is bright and cloudy than when the sun is shining strongly. It seems to me that there many on this forum who don't know a damn thing about what they're talking.

George Ford Posted December 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 2, 2011 When I was abroad there was a fella up in the mountains who had a 'dam' (big pond/small lake) further up the mountain. He ran a pvc pipe down a few hundred meters down to his seconds lower down the mountain dam. The pipe had some tiny holes in it and water came out with a high velocity turning a small water turbine. This would trickle feed a bank of car batteries he had and was enough to watch a small tv for a few hours every night, run a very small fridge with a freezer box and light the LEDs for the house. It recharged every day as it rained every evening and during the day sometimes. Even with no rain there was enough to run for a few days. I dunno why we don't do that on a massive scale with rivers etc!
