AN INSULT TO THE LADIES

When Paul was in Antioch, at the invitation of Barnabas, both of them took upon themselves to preach against women
by advising single men to remain as they were, free of women. (I Cor. 7:8)

Now, imagine this gospel being preached by two bachelors in a Jewish synagogue of all places! How could the Jews, who are so attached to the Law, fufill the very first of the Divine commandments to grow and multiply without women? (Gen. 1:28)

Some of the Jews had an idea: To flare up the women, so that they should take a more aggressive attitude against such an arrogant insult to the ladies. In fact, they got together and ganged up against Paul and Banabas; so much so, as to expell them out of the town. (Acts 13:50)

Paul and Barnabas took advantage of that female hostility, shook the dust off their feet in protest and went to the synagogue of Inconium. (Acts 13:51; 14:1) Gosh! From synagogue to synagogue! They were really looking for trouble. In Inconium, as the Jews had been informed about the message these two bachelors were bringing, they got the help of some of the Gentiles who got really upset about the attitude of Paul and Barnabas against women, and started planning to stone them.  As Paul and Barnabas were somehow breathed about their intentions, they fled to the Lycaonian town of Lystra and Derbe. (Acts 14:2-6)

Okay, let us face it, the Jews were exaggerating a little, but hey! The women were not. Where would they get their jollies if their town's men got persuaded into becoming as Paul and Barnabas were: Free of women? It is only obvious that the women were on the right to act with hostility to such an insult. Yes, that the ladies should listen in silence and be completely submissive to her husbands, and that they were not permitted by Paul to act as teachers, it was a pill that could be swallowed, but to be dropped as a hot potato by the opposite sex, they could not take it. (I Tim. 2:11-15)

What would you have to say about this attitude of Paul's?

Do we know whether either of them were divorcees who'd just been mugged in court by their ex-wive's lawyers?

Lmao read this and you will see this doesnt sound as bad as your making it (Corinthians 7.8)

Principles for Marriage

7 Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 3 The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

6 Now as a concession, not a command, I say this.[a] 7 I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.

8 To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am.9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

10 To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband 11 (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife.

12 To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. 13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you[b] to peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

Stop trolling, there wasnt a insult to women

He was not preaching to single men or against women, he was preaching to everyone.

1 Corinthians 7

King James Version (KJV)

7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.
9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Doesn't sound insulting to me.

The persecution was stirred up amongst both men and women, and was because the Jewish leaders were jealous because Paul and Barnabas were drawing peoples interest...   It was not persecution by women over what Paul and Barnabas had said to (in your words) insult them.

Hrm.  Again... nothing said about attitudes about women.  The Jews were upset that the gentiles were getting excited about the message so they turned the gentiles against P & B
.

14 At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. 4 The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. 5 There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. 6 But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, 7 where they continued to preach the gospel.

Do you mean Paul and Barnabas? No, IMHO, they were boy friends to each other. And Barnabas would crave Paul since Paul's return from Damascus to Jerusalem, when he tried to join the Sect of the Nazarenes. (Acts 9:26,27) After 15 days, due to the havoc Paul caused in Jerusalem with his gospel, he was banished back to Tarsus, where he stayed for 14 years. (Acts 9:30) Then, when the Nazarene synagogue of Antioch was getting too crowded Barnabas was sent by Jerusalem as the leader, and he took advantage of the situation and went to Tarsus to look for Paul, found him, and brought him over to live and work with him. (Acts 11:25)
