Ahhh, good ol' Futurama. I'm still a fan of that show.

People often ask me at the museum what the mummies feel like. Texture and such. Kids especially ask this. I like to reply, "Gross but true: beef jerky." This usually gets a chuckle but now and then a kid will ask, "Did they eat mummies?" Some have even asked me what a mummy tastes like.

Now I can refer them to Futurama.

We have a Corner Bakery at the Field Museum. Great sandwiches, but a popular item is soup in one of those bread bowls. Now I'm going to be thinking of mummies when I see them again.

As an addendum to my earlier post about the object in the mummification image (see Post 445), it occurred to me now that I'm home that I should check my library. It turns out the root st is part of words such as "to bind up" as well as "strip [of cloth]," so I think I was on the right track.

Now, on another note: pbarosso, keep that machine-gunning kitty ready for the next round of ancient-giant fantasies. It's bound to pop up again either here in this thread or in another, at some point.

The idea of a conspiracy to create fake mummies seems ludicrous. The people who dedicate their lives to such studies are passionate about learning more within their chosen specialism.  Every person who has ever been involved with excavations in Egypt would have had to be included, the very idea is beyond absurd. No theory can be based on the concept.. everyone is lying because I think big things were built by big people.

No it does represent their actual size.......The ancient egyptian artists were so accurate about size of people and their stuff, it was not made randomly.......u just have the comparison with other coffins though



I was in an arguement with a guy who was telling me the ancient egyptians didnt record anything about the mummification because it was a secret LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL @secret


When you ask so called egyptologist, They either answer you " its figurative......its a metaphor......its a Secret" and thats the history they created lol

Well, as somebody who has spend a part of his life taking picture of Egyptian history I am amazed that I have never found any evidence for a conspiracy, in fact I have found that half of the Egyptology don't like the other half and are doing their best to show their results wrong. Very bad environment for a conspiracy.

Unless, of course, you need to shield your brain with a tinfoil hat...
