Clecko Posted August 28, 2001 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2001 Anyone ever seen ball lightning? Freaky isn't it?
Tommy Posted August 28, 2001 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2001 I can’t say that I’m one of the supposed 5% of the global population to have witnessed this phenomenon. Anyway, here’s a BBC article explaining the theory of two New Zealand scientists who believe that ‘ball lightning’ is the result of burning particles of silicon given off when lightning hits soil. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_628000/628709.stm

ChrisStrickler Posted January 25, 2002 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2002 You too can make ball lightning at home, in your microwave! What you need is a standard glass christmas tree ornament (the round glass kind). Put in microwave. Punch in 20 seconds. Push Start. Watch a ball - have lightning in it... OK... so its not ball lightning, but it is cool. ~Chris BTW - This can, and has, blown up microwaves. I'm not talking spectacular explosions of fire as seen in Arnold Schwarzeneggar movies.
