"Russian meteor shockwave circled globe twice"

The shock wave from an asteroid that burned up over Russia in February was so powerful that it travelled twice around the globe, scientists say.

They used a system of sensors set up to detect evidence of nuclear tests and said it was the most powerful event ever recorded by the network.

More than 1,000 people were injured when a 17m, 10,000-tonne space rock burned up above Chelyabinsk.

The study appears in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

It's only a matter of time, I'm predicting 50-200 years, before another Tunguska occurs, but this time over a populated region as in the Chelyabinsk event. Lets hope the technology has been developed by then to prevent such a scenario from taking place.

If the tech can actually 'know; about a future strike...and bear in mind the Russia meteor came as a huge surprise...Im sure the rich and powerful will cosy up in some secret and very secure bunker if the S-H-T-F big time, and the regular population will be left to fend for themselves

It's never long before a decent thread gets infected by conspiracy theory mentality is it?

Sorry but Im not really into the CT's mentality, But you have to consider - quite reasonably, that safe and secure well stocked bunkers are in existence for the benefit of certain people. Govts absolutely have their safe bolt holes, this would seem common knowledge, and other wealthy folks have theirs too

You only have to google something like 'doomsday shelters' or similar to find there are some firms who specialise in building these things for people who have the "money".

And heres just one such firm

http://www.hardenedstructures.com/bunkers-for-Sale.php

And if, as was proposed - a major event 'should' happen, and if - it was reliably forcast in advance, then it stands to reason that those with the power/money will be somewhere safe, now doesnt it?

quote:

"One is Mount Weather in Virginia, where congressional leaders - including the House Speaker, Dennis Hastert, third in line to the presidency - were taken in the confused hours following the attacks.

It is described as a "small city", built into granite, behind a 5ft thick door guarding vast quantities of office space, room to store the nation's art treasures, sleeping accommodation for several thousand people, a private reservoir, and a crematorium"

Now, I dont know anyone who has a bunker that I can go to in times of a major disaster, and this then means that I, like the rest of Joe Public, would be fending for myself in such an event. As would you be.

(Unless you know a safe secure bunker that you can run to?)

Wheres the CT in that? Its common sense
