Shiloh17 Posted August 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Didn't make it very far into the air I see. Must have been a vibration or stress anomaly.
Waspie_Dwarf Posted August 23, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) Didn't make it very far into the air I see. It wasn't supposed to make it very high into the air. The F9R is a test bed for the Falcon 9's hover and landing capability to be used on future reusabe versions of the Falcon 9 first stage. Must have been a vibration or stress anomaly. It's a bit too soon to be jumping to conclusions. As the original article points out the vehicle was destroyed by the self-destruct system so the cause of the anomaly may not even by physical. It could, for example, have been a malfunction of the guidance system. Edited August 23, 2014 by Waspie_Dwarf
