TERROR YEMENIS SENTENCED

A Yemeni has been sentenced to death and 14 others to jail for a series of terror attacks.

Six were convicted for taking part in the October 2002 bombing of the French supertanker Limburg, in which a Bulgarian crew member died.

The blast spilt 90,000 barrels of oil into the Gulf of Aden.

Huzam Saleh Mejalli was condemned to death for killing a policeman, while the others received sentences ranging between three and 10 years.

Other offences included planning to assassinated US ambassador Edward Hull and forging documents.

The men were also convicted of carrying out attacks on a helicopter and on a civil aviation building.

The defendants - some suspected of links to al Qaeda - refused to accept the legitimacy of the court but said they would appeal.
