questionmark Posted May 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2012 (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said on Monday he was scaling back his White House bid and will no longer campaign actively in states that have yet to hold primary elections. Instead, Paul's campaign will concentrate on trying to add to its tally of delegates to the Republican National Convention in August by sending large groups of supporters to state conventions to elect themselves to delegate slots. acidhead Posted May 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2012 At least Reuters got their headline somewhat correct. The headline on Drudge says it all "Ron Paul OUT!" Link to the Washington Times article and it says "Ron Paul Ends His Hunt For Votes". The first headline is NOT TRUE. The second headline MAY BE. Either way, read through the aricle and you will see that the inference that Paul is out of the race is absolutely not true. The article explains that Paul will abandon the game of going from state to state to trying to win a popular vote that doesn't count for anything. Instead he will focus on the states that are currently holding delegate conventions. That strategy makes a lot of sense when you have the kind of fights in Oklahoma and Arizona we saw this weekend. The State Conventions is where the nominiation will be won or lost not traveling from state to state for beauty contests.
+DieChecker Posted May 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Actually using his Delegate Grab tactic, he did not need to run publicly at all, or even be on any ballots. At least as far as Caucus States are concerned anyway. Probably he is not going to press on with the rest of the states that need to vote, because all the caucus states have already voted, so only Primary states, where the public vote/poll determines how many hard delegates will be assigned to what presidential nominee. +DieChecker Posted May 16, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2012 The only big State that is not Closed that Ron Paul could scoop up is Indiana. The only other Caucus states open are US territory islands. Everything else that is still Open is a Primary State. Even if RP took away the rest of the caucus state votes. That would leave Romney with over 900, so all he needs to do is win California and New Jersey (Both Winner take all. And he'll be within ten points of being over the top. And that does not even count the other 260+ from the other states that have yet to post their delegates. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/republican_delegate_count.html
