bubblykiss Posted September 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Imitation_Game The film portrays the race against time by Alan Turing (Cumberbatch) and his team of code-breakers at Britain's top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. The motley group of scholars, mathematicians, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers had a powerful ally in Prime Minister Winston Churchill who authorized the provision of any resource they required. The film spans the key periods of Turing's life: his unhappy teenage years at boarding school; the triumph of his secret wartime work on the revolutionary electro-mechanical bombe that was capable of breaking 3,000 Enigma-generated naval codes a day; and the tragedy of his post-war decline following his conviction for gross indecency, a now-outdated criminal offence stemming from his admission of maintaining a homosexual relationship.[18] ****** Kinda shocked that they are making this film. He tried to crack the Voynich MS, the Turing Test is named after him and most shocking they are going to handle his homosexuality. I thought they would gloss over it. So, here's to hoping that they don't flop this very interesting man's life.
Skep B Posted September 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2014 The trailers look very cool. The cast seems like really good choices, and the fact they're dealing w/ the homosexual aspect answers something I was worried about in the trailers. Keel M. Posted September 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2014 It's one I cannot wait to see. I learned about him through a history of the internet class I took two summers ago. Very cool!
