Sword of Cid

As time goes on there are stories to be told

Of knights that are valorous and bold,

And such is a story of a knight named Cid

Who did nothing that a knight was forbid.

He rallied his steed to the bare depths of the wood

And came upon a dreary inn and stood.

He quickly stabled his horse

And found his course.

‘A respite here,’ he said,

‘Before I once more make tread.’

Inside the inn was filled with mirth so gay and bright;

Men eating and drinking to their delight.

Horses passing with thundered gaits,

As the men did sit and talk of mates.

‘A drink dear knight?

Fill those heavy feet with sprite!’

A knave had asked with toxic breath,

But moved away for fear of death.

Anxious was this brave chevalier

As talk turned more severe;

Bacchanal commenced throughout the inn

As drunken men turned slur to sin.

The course of night took toll again

Of this the knight was quite inane.

He drew his sword with acquisition

And with an ignorant cognition

Swept the blade in front of his breast

Striking hard at a bleeding chest.

The brawling ended as they stared

A smell of death had ill declared.

‘No swords have clashed this gorgeous eve,

Yet blood has spilled and death will come and leave.

You dear knight of valor!

Your face has turned quite pallor.

Does this dead sight of me

Fill you with glee?

Or will the sorrow slay your stricken soul?

No matter! For now you’ll pay a pricey toll.

As you feel the grips of death upon your spine

You will know those dead hands are mine!

And I shall feel you shiver your last regret

For then you’ll know you have paid your debt.’

And so the spirit left him a curse,

One that he could not reverse;

Not with silver nor gold

Or sorrow ‘til cold.

Comments would be nice. This is an edited version of another poem I did. I wasn't satisfied that the other poem had no real characterization or plot so I added a character and a small plot to this. :)
