addle_essence Posted November 8, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2005 I've always heard about the belief that if you photograph a living person you steal thier soul. Well if that was true... What do you think would happen if you photograph the dead?
Fox Mulder Posted November 8, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2005 you get a photo of a dead guy?... i'd say since their soul has already moved to the afterlife, it would do nothing? cheers.
Lord Umbarger Posted November 8, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2005 That is an old superstition. My Grandfather never really liked having his picture taken for the same reason. I don't know that anything would happen if you took a picture of a dead body. It used to be the custom to do just that for many years as a reminder of the lost loved one. I've seen a number of these. People used to actually have a professional photogragher do the pictures if they could afford one. As a side note, I always thought that the ones of little childeen were a little creepy. No rational reason, I just kind of do.

LizFL Posted November 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 9, 2005 I've never heard of this either, but at the same time, I remember the Amish dont like their picture being taken, nor faces on their dolls (my grandparents lived close to amish country in Iowa). Does anyone know if this was part of the reason?
addle_essence Posted November 9, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted November 9, 2005 One thing that's absolutely true . . . . they won't say "cheese." That reminds me of the one R.L. Lord Umbarger Posted November 9, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 9, 2005 How about this one... You can sometimes catch images on a T.V. if you take a picture of it a couple of seconds after you turn it off. Supposedly a face of a dead person? Oubli Posted November 9, 2005 #17 Share Posted November 9, 2005 A century ago, people did photograph their dead loved ones before burials and put their pictures in books. I cannot remember the reason behind this, but it is really nothing new. Many cultures used to make "death masks" of their loved ones after they had passed. Oubli Posted November 9, 2005 #18 Share Posted November 9, 2005 (edited) Uh huh. riiiiiight. And what leads you to this conclusion? It is a theory in the paranormal world, kind of like an EVP. Some believe that you can communicate with those that have died through electronic devices, such as a television that has been switched off. People actually take pictures of the T.V. or leave a camcorder recording their television screen while it is off, hoping to catch a glimpse of a spirit. Personally, I don't watch it much when it is on, I'm not going to even bother while it is off. Edited November 9, 2005 by amybutts
Jodie.Lynne Posted November 9, 2005 #19 Share Posted November 9, 2005 It wouldn't have anything at all to do with the photons from the tv screen retaining minute energy particles when the power is cut. Nope, what am I saying? A rational., logical answer to an optical electronic image? Yep, must be the spirits of the dead. BTW, when di the dead develop this talent to show up in electronics? Were they always able to do this, or just after they were invented? I mean, were the spirits sitting around saying to each other "Gee, I can't wait until they invent the telly so I can appear briefly, for less than 30 seconds on the screen...." ShaunZero Posted November 10, 2005 #23 Share Posted November 10, 2005 They say if you take a camera, plug it up to where the video from the camera shows up on the TV, then point the camera at the TV(So you see the TV in the TV, in the TV etc..) that you can see ghosts if you record it like this for a while and paly it back. You can see dead people.
