[Merged] Beetles beat out extinction

Today's rich variety of beetles may be due to an historically low extinction rate rather than a high rate of new species emerging, according to a new study. These findings were revealed by combing through the fossil record.

I don't know, I think the Beatles might be close to extincition.

Isn;t there like only two of them left, and they're not a breeding pair or anytning....

There are about 380,000 species of beetles that we know of—and that’s a whole lot. Now researchers studying the fossil record may have figured out why beetles are the most species-rich group of animals in the world: historically low extinction rates. The findings are published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B this week.
