Her remains reveal signs of rickets in the breastbone, arms, ribs and legs, leading archaeologists to believe her to be the earliest case of vitamin D deficiency found in the UK. The severity of her condition has baffled experts because she lived in an outdoors fishing community. Some have suggested she may have worn clothing or a costume that prevented sunlight reaching her skin, hinting that she had been a slave or a member of the community with religious or spiritual significance.
