Our newest national poll finds that Congress only has a 9% favorability rating with 85% of voters viewing it in a negative light. We've seen poll after poll after poll over the last year talking about how unpopular Congress is but really, what's the difference between an 11% or a 9% or a 7% favorability rating? So we decided to take a different approach and test Congress' popularity against 26 different things. And what we found is that Congress is less popular than cockroaches, traffic jams, and even Nickelback.

Their approval ratings are so abysmal nationally and yet most of them are like fortresses in their own districts, so entrenched by their constituents that we can't get rid of them.

The problem I see with this is that while approval ratings of Congress is slightly below that of Osama bin Laden around 65% of the likely voters think that their representatives are doing a good job.

Don't hold your breath for anything to change.

It's because alone they represent what you actually want from Congress, then you put them all together and it's like a tank full of male beta fishes.

I think that is probably it.  I am kind of mixed though.  It’s a given that you can’t compromise with Socialism so I do give the GOP high marks for at least pretending to be tough and stand their ground.  They are the only ones standing between this nation staying a Constitutional Republic or becoming a Dictatorship.  This deal they made on this first fiscal cliff makes me wonder if they caved?  All though Boehner’s motive seems to be: ok, you’ve got your tax hike on the rich, now, how ‘bout those spending cuts.  But Obama isn’t interested in spending cuts so I have to wonder if the GOP just gave away far too much?  Obama will use this rating to attack the GOP (not Congress).  What is amazing is that *this* President has the ability to twist any crap and people will just eat it up.  That is dangerous for the future of this nation, so the longer we can see gridlock in Congress, the GOP will receive high marks from me.  In my eyes, only the Socialists rate the 9%.  The problem locally is that all my representatives are Socialist and will never even acknowledge me.

D-dad? Lol, just kidding, but you do have many of the same complaints my father does. So your congressman is part of the actual Socialist party? Or do you just see the D after their name and think it's an S, just because it's not an R?

Do you think those complaints are not legitimate?

My Representative and Senator is most definitely Socialist.  Both are also liars but the Senator is just blatant about it.  And I thought this state got rid of the good’ol boy system.  The only thing that happened was that the old blood was replaced by the new blood.

Show me the proof that the “D” hasn’t been replaced by “S”?!  And the “R” isn’t much better because too many times “R” turns into “RINO” which is pretty much an “S” anyway.  The “R”s that count are actually “C” or even “L” (not liberal) :-)

Oh I think they're legitimate but I don't place the blame with Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, or Libertarians. It's career politicians. They're all cut from the same mold. Socialist? Republican? Who bloody cares, they're gonna lie to you no matter what to keep their pay checks.

I’ll agree with you that part of the problem is also the career politician but the primary issue is ideology.   It is not so much “Party” as it is ideology.  But it seems that “Party” no longer properly represents the ideology.  We’ve had 5 party systems in this country in its history, perhaps it’s time for the 6th??  It is basically between the Socialists and the Conservatives/Libertarians.

But Socialist ideals are counter to the Constitution.  That’s the main issue.  We need to either embrace the Constitution or create a new one and embrace Socialism and follow the rest of the world.  But someone willing to give up their freedom and liberty must have some kind of mental defect and shouldn’t be made to make such a choice.

But once we establish ideology, then we can go after the career politicians.  But on the other hand, perhaps if we establish term limits, that will encourage more Conservative candidates to come forward??  Yes, we need term limits but more importantly, we need to exercise Socialism from our system.  This house cannot stand divided, half free and half slave.  It is just as true today as it was in Lincoln’s day.

I hate to tell you we are no longer a constitutional republic. Your Constitution is trampled daily by actions of the Oligarchy. We are a Consumerist socialist system.

I disagree.  I think the Republic is still there (hurting very badly) but I do think that we are just a matter of 2 or 3 years away from losing it.  I’ve always put my faith in the people but even that is beginning to wane and it’s almost coming to a point of waiting for divine intervention.  But I suspect that years from now, reality will hit and the weakest, poorest will suffer beyond belief and we’ll see if the survivors will have the fortitude to pick up the pieces and rebuild the Republic as the Socialists will all have died out after living it up.

I think there are other threads that deal with people not knowing what socialism is.

On topic maybe if people would give their other reps the boot or gave a third party a try then maybe things would get better. But if you keep getting the same people in election after election there's not much that's going to change.

That alone will not work.  We need to continue to boot the incumbent out over and over again until it no longer becomes appealing to stay as a politician.  A third party won’t work.  Firstly, it will become just as corrupt as the other two.  

Then you’ll say, oh but we need a fourth party (etc., etc.), then no party will ever win the majority so then, they’ll have to form coalitions and coalitions do not represent the people.  

And coalitions imply professional politicians otherwise coalitions don’t hold together.  And nothing will change until we establish what the foundational ideology this nation will follow.  Either the dreams of this President’s father or the dreams of our Founding Fathers?  Your choice.

The trouble with these politicians is because we do not follow our foundational beliefs in the first place.  Many in the GOP House are trying.
