Privacy is non-existent on Facebook. It's not meant to be either. The best you can do is to 'shield' your account from appearing in the search engine and hide your friends list but that's about it. Everything you write, you like and click on is recorded on their servers and can be subjected to review by the authorities.

There's also the fact that the business model of Facebook is built around advertising. Data mining and profiling is a way to serve tailored ads to users.

All true, but highlighting just how scary it can be when utilised in certain ways is still commendable if you ask me. And Facebook should be ashamed that their software can be used for such nefarious purposes.

I got you. It's just that my privacy expectations from Facebook are virtually zero. Their creepy location tracking doesn't really surprise me. It has been known for years that smartphones are not exactly private. Compagnies can track your locations in many different ways and know quite a lot about your whereabouts.

The best way to have privacy on facebook is to not have a facebook account.

How can you be 'on Facebook' yet not have an account?
