this Phenomenon used to happen at Hafez al assad time, and it wasn't really by force they just make it like a national celebration
and make it a part of the schedule of the people who is working at Government institutions, and people used to wait for such events to take a day off, going into this events was much more fun, also the schools in syria are free paid by the government, when i was in school
i always waited for such rallies, and then i would Escape and go play with frinds

any way at that time the country was really united to unthinkable way, the people really did genuinely liked hafiz even secretly, also hafiz al assad was some kind of a genius, his influence is what helped bashar being his son

but since bashar took leadership he started slowly drifting out of this way, he try to make the change as unnoticeable as possible
so things like this are being removed slowly with time,

do you remember when we used to dress army clothes when going to schools ? this was changed about 8 years ago
many things are being changed, among them is forced rallies, i don't think the majority of rallies are being "forced"
most of them are genuine, but maybe part of you is still angry at the past, didn't you used to escape rallies ?


i get videos of supporting rallies every day from every where even out side of syria, even non syrian lebanese



do you think we are some oil rich country ?, most of the problems if not all of them are because of lack of the money

i'm completely with a democratic solution, any one at this stage who push for democracy i will be with them
the government did rewrite the constitution, and assad have a little time for the next elections,
10 parties has been registered until now, if the government keep on fulfilling its promises for adopting democracy
then that is great for every one' if they did not then i would change my perspective, also i'm not paying int the opposition
mission for terminating the shiaa, if they want support from the people they should start calling for democracy,
don't be fooled by the support you get from saudi arabia and usa, they are only doing this temporarily, thier reson is to weaken

I actually think that naval base in Tartus is the only reason why Russia is interested in Syria. Goodness knows why they have it there but it's probably something to do with NATO.

well probably but they're taking part in directly killing people by providing guns and equipment
people are getting attack by rockets and tanks and aircraft " made in russia "

and their attitude and vetos raised the public hatred to danger level that some families of vicitims have called it out
to consider any russian even a civilian is a target to attack to play for their goverment's attitude

Hello KoS!   I have a question for you sir.  What are the demands of the anti-govt forces?  Just for Assad to step down?  Or total regime change?   What do you want?

I can't believe you people there are being attacked by jets.  It breaks my heart to see what Syrians are going through.   I think it's possible that Syria needs a solidarity movement and some kind of political process where all can compromise toward peaceful reform.  I am thinking of a kind of compromise where nobody gets everything they want, but everybody gets some of what they want.

I wonder too, if there's been any cases of Assad's govt forces defecting to the side of the rebels?

Remember sir, that the resistance doesn't reside solely in gun battles in the streets or in the quantity of the violence, it mainly resides in your heart.   There are more than one way to fight for freedom.   Sometimes change comes slowly and peacefully, sometimes not.   But there must be passion in your heart always, either way.

some kids wrote on the school wall  " your turn has come doc "
the cheif of security in that place impriosent the kids and tortured them pulled out their nails and such torture that was all in daraa
people went peacefully to that man and told him we want our kids
that person told them go to your women and have new kids .. and if you can't i'll send my men to do that for you
then people burst out and demanded reforms when they were met by force and murderers
and the demands kept getting higher with every more death
now .. a change in whole regim is not enough .. people want to see each and every one responsiable for a kill being hunged
and they will not settle for anything less than to see the whole ruling family being killed and hunged

now as to where the anti-gov forces they are ALL were goverment forces
they defected due to the cruelty they've seen against their own people
the thing is .. our army and other security forces and all .. they're all led by alwities
also they make alwities armed civlians to accompany the army from behind

What a horrible story about the crimes, kidnapping and torture, and of course many people are outraged by such murderous thugs!

I'm glad to hear about the many defections though.  That gives me hope.  I think that policy using Alwities to ensure loyalty with deadly force is foolish, and it will backfire on the govt before the end.  

And I wonder, who is still arming this govt?  

Do any anti-gov forces ask for international help, such as a UN no-fly zone?

KoS I've read things you've said about western forces like the US raping women and killing indiscriminately and it's obvious you believe the West treats Muslims very badly.  I'm sure some of that does go on after 11 years of war.  Everyone is tired, sick and angry.  No one wants to be there fighting anymore, I'm sure.  What I would ask is what would you want the US to do to help?  The Turks talked about safe havens in the north but then they stopped talking about it.  If Europe or America starts bombing Assad's military the way we did Gaddafi's then Russians could get killed or start shooting back and then the whole damned world might be at war.  You see the problem?  After years of war Muslims like yourself hate the US and Europe for being in Muslim countries but you also seem to be saying you hate the world for not coming to your countries to help.  If the world keeps seeing pictures week after week of babies being killed OR if Assad does use chemical weapons I think the West finally will try to impose a no fly zone and/or safe havens.  If Russia would get the hell out of the way it would have been attempted already.  But mark my words.....if Assad thinks he's going down, he will attack Israel and if he does that with chemical or biological warheads on scuds Israel will use nukes.  They've already said they would.  Chem/bio weapons kill very large numbers of people and with mobile scud launchers the only way to be sure to make it stop quickly would be nuking the whole area they were coming from.  I'm not saying this as some sort of veiled threat...I want a solution in your country where innocent people can live and be left alone from that butcher.  But gassing Jews is a REALLY BAD IDEA.  And Assad seems like the type that he would do it if he were dying himself.  It may sound odd to you but I'm praying for you, your country and the children there...

Yam are you really comparing what's happening in Syria to Israel's use of American supplied weapons?  Really? The closest comparison I can come up with was the Sabra/Shatilla incident in Lebanon where militias were allowed by Sharon to run amok in unarmed refugee camps....30 years ago.  To make a comparison of today's situation with what's happening in Syria is inaccurate and imo, disgraceful.  Israel is NOT butchering children or allowing anyone else to do so.  The weapons Russia is supplying are being used daily to support Syrian government troops so they can brutalize the unarmed villages that protest against Assad.  Alawite militias are apparently the ones doing the knife work but the softening up is done with Russian artillery and tank shells.  WHERE do you see that happening in Israel?  When has Israel ever(other than the above mentioned incident) done such a thing against a defenseless population?  Surely you aren't going to use the Mavi Marmara or Cast Lead?  Cast Lead was the most recent example of a use of weapons probably purchased from the US and that brush fire was an answer to YEARS of rocket fire from Gaza.  You seem absolutely blind to any Israeli justification in their fight to survive.  Just amazing....

I think killing thousands of Palestinians and imprisoning thousands of Palestinian youth is equally as disgusting as killing thousands of Syrians and imprisoning thousands of Syrian youth.  Yes I'm making that comparison.
