Mad Max: Fury Road!

Last night I went to see the new Mad Max film for a second time. The last time I saw a film in the cinema twice was a decade ago, when the last Star Wars film came out, and that was more the case that I'm a Star Wars fanboi, not actually a case that I thought the film was amazingly good.

I have to say, this film was a game changer. Action films from now on will look at this and say "how can we replicate what Mad Max did". It was amazing from start to finish. Granted there wasn't much of a plot or character development, but if you went into this film with ANY expectation of plot then you really don't know Mad Max. This film accomplished exactly what it set out to do, and it did it in style. Watch it on the big screen if you can. And if it's a choice, I think the 3D compliments the action quite well:

I know the movie's been out for a while (heck, in a week it won't be playing any longer at our local cinema). I just thought I'd start a discussion on it to see how others have seen it :)

Haven't seen it yet but definitely am going to, it's been getting great reviews. I'm looking forward to seeing a movie that isn't so laden with CGI too; as awesome as that technology is, it can come off as cartoony, and I think Mad Max limits the use of it.

It does. One plasma storm is the exception, but I feel that the fact it is an exception keeps it amazing in its own right. The rest is old school effects.

I admit I was skeptical about this remake but it looks really good. Think I'll have to check this out. :tu:

Any cameo's from the original movie?

Looks good. I really liked the original Mad Max movies back in the day. I've read that Mel Gibson had such a thick Australian accent, for the American release his voice was dubbed over by an American actor.

You probably know already but the actor who plays the bad guy in this film is the same actor who plays the main bad guy in the original Mad Max 1.

I recognized his voice in the movie trailer but I was not sure it was him. That voice is unforgettable.

I honestly don't remember the original films that much, I was only a kid and it's been years. But he makes a really great bad guy in this film.

I know what you mean. I was 7 years old when the first movie came out and its been a long time since I've watched it. I think its great they bright back the original bad guy. Makes me want to see it even more.

It's not the original bad guy, it's just a nod to the original in choosing the same actor. He's a completely different character.

I saw Fury Road and Age of Ultron on the same day, which was good fun. I enjoyed both but Fury Road was clearly the better of the two in my opinion. I was skeptical about it going in but thought it was great.

i'll admit, i thought this was going to be bad. i've had this picture in my mind of the original mad max just being some embarrasing relic of the late 70's, and that the new movie was just some nostalgia cash in. i was wrong, in a number of ways.

that said, i would be remiss if it didn't post this:

Same actor, same series. Different character. Kind of like when they remade Battlestar: Galactica the actor who played the original Apollo was brought back to play a new character.

Makes sense to me.

OK, now I get it.

I watched the original (for the first time in many years). I really didn't think it was very good. Not like I remembered it. Road Warrior was much better.

Got to see it in 3D, good movie. I agree Road Warrior is a good one, but I think this is the best Mad Max movie yet.

CLICK THE SPOILER BELOW ONLY IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE MOVIE (OR REALLY DON'T CARE ABOUT PLOT SPOILERS)

Seriously, giving you another chance, just in case. If you haven't seen the film and don't mind spoilers, click away to your heart's content :)

Saw it twice now. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best movie of the year so far. And I'm a huge Avengers fan.

Incredible action. Great plot, great characters, great story. I can't find anything wrong with Fury Road.

im torn between the two but yeah this movie is just ridiculously good one of the best action movies in the last decade if not even longer and it should have made another 200 million in the box office and its a god damn shame it didn't i hope they do another one because we dont get to see practical effects in movies like this anymore and we probably never will again

They will make more movies regardless of the box office earnings. It didn't get as much as it should have because Mad Max has little name recognition after all these years. Now, however, things will be much different.

I saw the new Mad Max a couple of weeks ago. I really liked it! There wasn't much plot, but Mad Max movies really don't have much plot anyway. The action was great, I never lost interest, and hello, Charlize Theron is amazing... even when she's bald and wearing fatigues! LOL.

I liked the action non-CGI feel of this movie. Two thumbs up!

Agree with everything, except the plot thing. To me, it had a strong plot, not a complicated one, but one that was easy to follow, easy to accept, and definitely one that motivates all of the characters.

I saw this a while ago, and I was reasonably impressed with how good a job they had done with updating the movie. The only disappointing thing for me was the ending - bit too cheesy and cliched, and not really in keeping with the character (Max) through the rest of the movie - he is an opportunist, albeit with a moral code that tends towards kindness rather than cruelty.
