Spiders could become bigger and super-fast

Still Waters

Forget floods, droughts, sea-level rise and even the melting polar ice caps. Here's a really compelling reason to worry about global warming. Spiders.

Research has already suggested that there will be more of them - and they will grow bigger - as temperatures rise. Now a new study, published in the journal Experimental Biology, has concluded that they are likely to be able to run faster and therefore, be harder to catch.

Or, as we like to think of it, Australia.

Let's say it together folks "bird eating spiders". Same genus as the funnel-web.

For years I have longed to replace my high mileage car with a team of gigantic war spiders pulling my chariot of terror.

They all laughed and said I was mad. I just kept telling to buy more hum-vees.

my sympathy to the arachnaphobes.

i guess the comfort might be that it'll probably take a long, long time for these changes. and by then, we'll all be dead!

yup.

For the first time I am most definitely on board with the global warming movement. Higher taxes, full paycheck confiscation I don't care. I'm selling my car and getting a 10-speed. Whatever it takes. We do not need bigger faster spiders.

The intergalactic arachnid armada may be parked out in our Oort Cloud mining resources as we post; just don't tell Psyche.

If spiders became very big they would turn fluffy and big eyed like this:

i know, right? just be careful about hugging them; their fuzzy looking fur may actually be stinging hairs that they can shoot out at high velocities.

I sense a new business opportunity opening up in the used flame-throwing tank industry. Because you know those ordinary, hand-held flame throwers just aren't going to cut it anymore. :unsure2:

If you pre-order now, we'll throw in the first 2 drums of jellied fuel for the flame thrower for free!
