Season of birth affects your mood later

Babies born in the summer are much more likely to suffer from mood swings when they grow up while those born in the winter are less likely to become irritable adults, scientists claim.

Researchers studied 400 people and matched their personality type to when in the year they were born.

They claim that people born at certain times of the year have a far greater chance of developing certain types of temperaments, which can lead to mood disorders.

I would tend to disagree as there are several other factors that can influence development. Is everyone born in a tropical climate angry,or those that live in the north were it is cold from a greater number of months of a more stable temperament,I think not.A study comprised of a group of 400 is almost laughable, especially if they are all from a limited geographic location.

Like JM, I disagree with the findings.

I looked up the credentials of the scientist mentioned, and she is real and is a PhD and is a professor of psychology (so presumably the research was done correctly) but I do feel that she's found one of those accidental connections like the correlation between marriage rates in North Carolina and executions.

I was born in June and I have depression and get irritated easily, for what it's worth.

ha!

The study also found that those born in the autumn were less likely to be depressive

the jokes on them; i was born in autumn and i've suffered from clinical depression since i was ten.

so i guess the joke's on me, really.

more seriously, the article didn't seem to say much about the fact that seasons can be very different depending on where you are on the planet. that seems like a big thing to miss. the study was done by people from budapest, did they only study people from that area? or worldwide? and if it was worldwide, would 400 be too small of a sample size?

The article almost reads like one of those silly new-age trash articles you see all over the place.

It seems to take certain calculations like hormone levels and makes false and misleading connections to seasons.

Kind of silly it seems. Guess these researchers couldn't think of something important to focus on.

I was born and also live in an equatorial nation that has no seasons at all. Every day, every year for my entire life I have seen the same weather. So how will that affect my mood?

I have changed my opinion on this recently. I have never been a fan of or believer in astrology however, considering we spend our first few months on the womb surrounded by fluid, our brains are immersed in fluid and considering the effects of the moons gravity on bodies of water on our planet I do believe there may be an effect on our development related to seasons.

But I think we should be looking at conception time as opposed to birth time if a more concrete correlation is to be found, as premature births may throw a spanner in the statistics.

so... your mood would be affected because of the position of the planet around the sun ?

Actually I take back my previous statement, my other half's mood swings are completely unpredictable and follow no seasonal patterns whatsoever... ;)

You do not have any moods you just stay the same, everyday same-- same-- same.....

Yes I certainly believe that being born at a certain time of year, reflects on your mood and personality. I have first hand proof of this, which enables me to understand why people are the way they are. Obviously there may be slight exceptions, but in general the rule holds true.

You know, I always have sort of believed this. My older sister was born in December, and she always has seemed to be a very crabby person. My younger sister, who was born in June, often has "rapid mood swings" as said here. As for me, I was born in May, and I do seem to be a bit more emotional and sensitive than my sisters.

So your sister turned into a crab?

I like to think my being a miserable human being is based on my own choices than it is the time when my dad knocked up my mom.

technically #19 ZOD, it would not be the same time since you are born 9month later.

i know its not the same time but the correlation is the same.

i was born 9 months after conception, ergo, by this theory my personality is based on when my mom got pregnant
