keithisco Posted December 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Such a sad life surely the time is ripe to bring prostitution under regulatory control - no more criminal gangs, and hopefully no more tragedies inflicted on innocents... IMO A mother has admitted burying her newborn baby alive in south-west London. Elita Amantova, 39, from Latvia, was living rough in Tooting before giving birth in 2012, the Old Bailey heard. The baby was discovered after a fox dug up body parts from Tooting Common and dumped them in a nearby tractor yard. At court, Amantova's plea of not guilty to murder, but guilty to infanticide was accepted by the prosecution. She was given a hospital order. Mental illness Outlining the case, prosecutor Zoe Johnson QC said Amantova had arrived in the UK in 2008, but after losing her job she fell into the company of organised criminals in Norfolk and worked as a prostitute Source (BBC): http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-30343865
Bendy Demon Posted December 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Wait..infanticide is NOT considered actual murder? Sad for all but mostly for the poor baby.

Moon Gazer Posted December 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Oh my heart bleeds for that poor little baby :( I know that she was suffering with a mental illness and wasn't in her right mind, I just can't help wishing that she had dumped the baby at a hospital or church or something so the child could have been helped and one day adopted. Such a sad story
Moon Gazer Posted December 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Burn the b****. );< Kill her with fire! Sorry for profanity, I really like kids ); While there is a small part of me that also jumps to this response (I am a mum and cannot imagine how anyone could do this)...... I have to accept that this woman was not of sound mind. If she did not have a mental illness and had done this because of pure evil I would be saying the same as you. But I cannot imagine that mothers frame of mind when she did this. There are a number of mental illness that can cause someone to "lose it" and do something that someone of sound mind would be horrified about, but in their head it all makes perfect sense. Like I said above, I just wish that she had handed the child to the authorities.
keithisco Posted December 5, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted December 5, 2014 A child born within a normalised relationship is a precious thing.... a mother in such a situation would surely respond differently. A woman from Latvia, forced into prostitution, becoming pregnant and possibly dosed up with any amount of illegal substances to maintain control of her, would surely not be in her right mind. Living off of scraps of food and wild berries left out for birds to eat and basically living in a cemetery. There are 2 victims here, the mother AND the baby. I am fairly certain that her Pimps and Johns couldn't give a damn about the pregnancy, and lets be brutally honest - a pregnant prostitute does not earn money - so she is cut loose, in a foreign country to fend for herself, weeks of foraging for food, probably totally unaware of support services available to her, also probably in fear of her life if she said anything to the authorities. It is so easy to be judgmental from the comfort of your sofa, but I bet none of you could even begin to understand this situation - I cant myself. So JinxDeMinx before passing judgment from your comfy lifestyle, really try to understand just how horrific life is for so many other people.
JinxDeMynx Posted December 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2014 My life isn't comfy at all I live in a ratty apartment making minimum wage, the only thing I got in my fridge is Dijon mustard. I'm close to insanity.
seeder Posted December 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2014 It is sad, but we had a mother jump of cliffs a few days ago with her newborn, and another baby was found in a wheely bin, again, recent. It goes on all round the world. remember the Chinese mother who tried to flush her baby in the loo? Indians killing the children just for being the wrong sex? But the article does describe her situation, schizophrenic, in need of treatment, homeless and living wild and eating bread left out for the birds, and berries she foraged Sounds pretty desperate to me

Just saying I agree she had nothing, but she also had schizophrenia, and at the time refused help, from the article Previously diagnosed with a schizophrenia-type mental illness, her condition was said to have been exacerbated by childbirth, and she refused help from police to find a suitable place to live, the court heard. stevewinn Posted December 5, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Well it was a disaster from the start, even though she was mental to start with, she upped roots and moved to the UK, lost her job and got herself into prostitution, got pregnant, and at that time she was living off berries and bread left out for birds. It says in the article the Police offered her help to find a suitable place to live. but she refused. Just shows the UK will import anyone. even if your mental. no doubt the British tax payer will look after her for the rest of her life. all's well that ends well, for her at least. When it comes to the Poor baby, the real innocences in all of this, the attitude seems to be, who cares. On prostitution keep it a criminal offence, If people want to get into that murky shenanigans, they can always go "the Dam"
TSS Posted December 5, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 5, 2014 There but for the grace of God and all that... Never assume your current state of mind will always be that way.....any number of mental illnesses can hit any of us at any time, you might then find yourself committing acts even worse than this.
