questionmark Posted September 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2007 US Marine among 4 Americans detained in Indonesia on assault charges AP Posted: 2007-09-01 03:54:34 JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - Four Americans, including a Marine working at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting workers at an Indonesian swimsuit factory, police and an embassy official said Saturday. The Americans and 76 Indonesians are said to have cut gate locks, forced their way past security guards and attacked eight employees at PT Natural Selaras, local chief detective Capt. Ade Arie said. Offices were vandalized and one worker was hospitalized in the incident, which occurred about 2:30 a.m. Monday in the industrial town of Tangerang, just outside the capital, he said. "We have named them all as suspects for assaulting the factory workers and public order offenses," Arie said. "The four allegedly ordered dozens of people to remove the factory equipment forcefully." The incident appeared to have resulted from a dispute between U.S. company Manhattan Beachwear and the Indonesian garment producer, to which it rented manufacturing equipment, news reports said. "All the equipment in the factory belongs to my clients. They just wanted to take it back and move it to another factory," The Jakarta Post quoted defense lawyer Zaki Tanjung as saying.
