BORN five weeks premature, twins Amelie and Ava only just made it into this world after being resuscitated with oxygen.

But they're not the only ones who are lucky to be alive.

Their mother Angela Cottam almost died after a suspected fingernail or hair from one of them passed into her bloodstream during their birth.

The rare condition - which affects only one in 80,000 births - caused 32-year-old Mrs Cottam to suffer severe internal bleeding and her lungs collapsed.

Shared this with my two pregnant friends.

'A phantom,' said my Uncle Mycroft, who had just materialised, 'is essentially a heteromorphic wave pattern that gains solidity when the apparition converts thermal energy from the surroundings to visible light. It's a fascinating process and I'm amazed no one has thought of harnessing it - a holographic TV that could operate from the heat given off by an average-size guinea pig.' ~ First Among Sequels, Jasper Fforde

Pass this around to teen girls, to me, that's bloody effective birth control right there in that story. :o Glad she and the babies are alright though!

I know this may be a little off topic, and I dont want to hijack a thread so apologies. If any one wants this removed, mods, feel free to do so.
The story reminded me of what we went through with George, not the fingernail problem but the prematurity. He was 12+6 weeks prem.

If any one knows any "kids" who want a baby, take them to the special care baby unit of the local hospital and believe me their eyes will be opened.

Would post before and after pics but may distress some people.

The things they can do today in hospitals is amazing, especially with premature babies.

If what I type offends you, don't see it as an attack, but as my opinion.

Even today, having a baby means one foot is in the grave the entire time you are pregnant, and just after.

Miss me?
