Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, has complained of the tiring natue of her job and said she will step back from the role before the end of Barack Obama's presidency.

Mrs Clinton said she would not serve a full eight years if President Barack Obama is re-elected in 2012.There has been speculation in America that Mrs Clinton could resign to run for the governor's post in New York but she said she wanted to retire to writing and teaching.

Oh no.....no.gifHilary is pulling a Sarah Palin!! I expected so much more from herhmm.gif

No she isn't, she says she will not continue with Obama into his second term. Most Secretary of States don't stay longer then one term. Also technically i don't think she has a term, so she can leave any time she wants like any average or regular job...where as Sarah had a job term and was also publically elected.

However yes it is a bit unexpected...just be glad she wasn't elected president!:P

My thoughts on this are, what if she HAD become President - would she just have decided one term was all she wanted because it was so hard?

If.. she can't really make it as the Secretary of State... Yeah I am inclined to agree that I doubd she's beable to make it as President. Shame, but really.. not lookin for someone who will walk away because the job's to hard. Even if it's not a termed job.

She wanted the Presidency, she had to settle for Secretary of State. She has no hope of ever becoming president, so why not retire from SOS after one term and make millions from public-speaking and books? She is under no obligation to serve more than one term and at no point does she indicate she is going to resign before Obama's first term is up.

Completely different things. Secretary of State has to travel. Constantly. Do you have any idea how many countries she's visited in the past year?

I'm sorry but there is no way that someone is going to tell me that SoS is a "harder" job than President of the US. He DOES travel a lot, though maybe not as much as SoS, but he also gets to deal with everything in the US (and world) from the top down and is (theoretically) THE decision maker, as commander in chief and all that. I'd say the tradeoff of "running around and getting tired" and "stress of governing the most influential country in the world" is at the very least, equitable.

No. What I'm saying is that physically Sos is very hard. Harder than president. Hillary is not a spring chicken.
