Mexico's Fox toughens talk on U.S. immigration law

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Vicente Fox called recent U.S. measures to stem illegal immigration a step back for bilateral relations on Friday and said Mexican migrants do jobs "that not even blacks want to do."

In comments likely to raise the temperature of the immigration debate, Fox defended the role of undocumented Mexican workers in the United States to a group of Texas business people meeting in Mexico.

"There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States," he said in a speech broadcast in part on local radio and reported on newspaper web sites.

Fox said recent, tougher measures against immigrants do not represent "the road we should be building between friends and partners."

Mexico has been seeking an accord with Washington for years to make it easier for millions of illegal Mexican immigrants to live and work in the United States. The country expects to repatriate this year more than 250,000 foreigners, mostly Central Americans headed for the U.S. border.

Mexican hopes were raised early last year when President Bush proposed a temporary worker program but it has become bogged down in Congress.

A key partner in U.S. border security, Mexico is upset at new U.S. controls on foreign-born people, including tougher rules to obtain drivers' licenses.

Congressional Republicans attached the immigration changes to legislation providing $82 billion in emergency funds for fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law soon.

The law, approved unanimously by the Senate on Tuesday, waives environmental rules to allow the extension of a fence on the border between California and Mexico to stop illegal immigrants. Mexico calls the measure "overly extreme."

But Fox said he was encouraged by a bill put forward on Thursday by Sens. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, and Edward Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, to allow some of the estimated 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to get legal jobs and eventual citizenship.

"I hope President Bush will support and push the initiative, as he has publicly agreed. I have to take his word and hope he delivers," Fox said.

Sure, Mexico is calling our measures "overly extreme" because they are not the ones PAYING for it. As for Fox insulting the African-American people, well I can guess that is going to come back to bite him, hard.

So now the leader of Mexico is making racial slurs against African Americans, and admits that the US should pay millions of people from his own work-force? Oh, boy!

What a silly joke this Fox is! I hope the Minutemen extend their numbers to include all borders of the U.S.. And I hope they stay on the job till government kicks into action.

It may be a while til this thing takes off, but it will be worth it. thumbsup.gif

It's sad that the Mexican leader doesn't know squat about how his country men living in the US. The Mexicans that live here in Oregon, 60% of which are most likely illegal, live off of government programs, and get on them easier then actual citizens. Also, through my experience as a gas pumper in this state, I can tell you that half of them expect special treatment cuz they are mexican. They get out of their cars, expect me to stop helping whoever I'm helping and go pump their gas. Honestly I don't see them making anything better here in Oregon either, they just make things harder for tax paying Americans like me.

why did Fox say that, don't he know that Mexicans are leaving his country because they cant keep a good economy. We pratically do them a favor already by helping them when they get here.

So if we were to use the logic used by the President of Mexico we should turn a blind eye to illegals crossing into The United States. It is so outragous that I cannot seem to formulate an intellengent reply. This is outragous, I can't hel;p but wonder what Jessie Jackson has to say about this statement.

No need to insult other people. Just because you don't agree with some views doesn't mean you can't have a mature post. Seriously, grow up a litle bit. thumbsup.gif

The fact is the Mexican President is racist. No, I'm not using that lightly and just throwing it out for shock and awe. I mean it. You don't go around saying that Mexicans will do the jobs even the Blacks wouldn't do. It is clear that blacks are lower then whites in his mind and sadly enough it seems he also thinks Mexicans are at the bottom of that pile. I mean, seriously what year is it now? Last time I checked it was 2005 and not a couple hundred years ago.

Speaking of soulless snakes, Isn't Fox and his socially elite cabinet attempting to use immigration policy ( illegal alien amnesty ) to "dump" a bulk of it's unskilled/poor population into the us because the Mexican economy can't support them. Mexico has long used the "safety valve" of the US in an attempt to keep the floundering economy afloat and it's looking more and more like deportation of Mexico's poor. Anyone who was surprised about Fox's racial slurs needs only to take a look at the elite ruling class of Mexico. After doing some research, I came upon some interesting facts; Fox and cabinet are considered ( and consider themselves ) "white Mexicans" ( the bureaucrat bourgeoisie and the big landlords ) and represent the social elite minority that goes by the same name. Fox and co. seem to belive that displacing its poor ( and also darker-skinned public ) to the US will cleanse the gene pool and improve Mexican economy. I don't think that will work and opening a door like that sounds a bit Nazi-like to me. But, oh well, if Fox doesn't want them; the US will take them. Perhaps not en mass as the honorable Fox would like but eventually. I don't see the US closing it's borders any time soon. And even if the borders do close; they will find a way to get here as they always have. So, bring me your tired, your poor, huddled masses and all that jazz.

Did I hear right! ???

Some Mexican official is offering to keep illegal mexicans from coming into the US?? blink.gif Wouldn't that make everything right! thumbsup.gif Then the US would be settled in it's thinking about immigration the right and legal way. And both countries would be happy.
