This will be a fascinating "Mega - Project" for the UK with worldwide applications:

Chancellor George Osborne is expected to take plans for a £1bn tidal lagoon scheme in Swansea a step closer to fruition, the BBC understands.

The plan would see a giant manmade lagoon generating power to run 120,000 homes for 120 years.

The Guardian reported the UK government was to open negotiations on the subsidy the scheme would attract in the Budget.

In December, Energy Secretary Ed Davey announced "in-depth discussions" on the project had started.

There were even suggestions the plans could be approved before May's general election, with Conservative and Liberal Democrat ministers seeking to claim credit for the world's first tidal energy lagoon.
