Still Waters Posted May 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Supermarket Asda has defended a "wearable England flag" it has launched for the World Cup after claims it resembles a Ku Klux Klan outfit. The £3 St George's Cross, with the word "England" on the red cross, features a hood which Asda said was to allow fans to wear it and stay dry despite the unpredictable British weather. http://www.telegraph...lan-outfit.html
Kenemet Posted May 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Uhm... bad choice of design, IMHO -- red stripes need to be broader, or go with the Union Jack.
dr no Posted May 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Considering the majority of the people buying these will be watching it in a pub I fail to see the need for the hood.

freetoroam Posted May 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I advocate no one to buy any of these supermarket rubbish, the reason: none of it is even made in England, the majority is made in China. JGirl Posted May 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) oh what the hey just put a tassel on the tip of the hood and there ya go. no more pointy hood. or they could just sew the point right out of the design either way would work, or how about just get over it cuz it really doesn't look like a KKK outfit at all folks Edited May 31, 2014 by JGirl
Mikko-kun Posted May 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2014 There's resemblance all right, but I dont think Ku Klux Klan has a real nor legal (not always the same) ownership over it, they just use it. Like nazis adopted the swastika from egypt and wherenot.

If somebody buys it, sell it. If you're good at advertising, you can sell anything. Problem solved.
stevewinn Posted May 31, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 31, 2014 I can see young children wearing this on days out / playing out in the street while the world cup is on etc... i wonder if it was made in kids sizes only would it still be compared to the Klu Klux Klan or does it only become KKK esque when worn by an adult? and does that say more about us than what the actual item is. spud the mackem Posted May 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Whats the next Big event, so that I can phone an agent in China, to make me 10,000 T shirts, hats, scarves ,souvenir mugs or any other trash I can think of and make a fortune.Personally I'm willing to bet anyone that England wont even make it to the last 8.
Eldorado Posted May 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2014 It does look KKK-ish to be honest. However, as a Scot, I must say I feel for my Englsh cousins. It's like it's a crime to be an English, and/or British, patriot these days. I've also noticed that every big tournament the Englsih team readies itself for is hampered by negative stories by our media. What's the deal with that? It's like they want England to lose.

Crabby Kitten Posted May 31, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 31, 2014 IMHO the England team and fans should be wearing red anyway. I've ordered a long red and white ladies England wig, LOL.

rashore Posted May 31, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 31, 2014 This might be an extremely stupid question. I thought KKK was a US thing? Is there KKK in the UK?
redhen Posted May 31, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Is there KKK in the UK? I don't live in the UK, but I would bet my last dollar that there are no KKK branches there. It's just another perceived grievance and a distraction from the real threats.

spud the mackem Posted May 31, 2014 #21 Share Posted May 31, 2014 In a supermarket today, baseball caps with English logo were priced at £6.00 beside them were the same caps with a Brazilian logo priced at £4.00...made by the same company...Chinese..!!!...Its rip off time folks.
Likely Guy Posted June 1, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Yes, it looks like a KKK cloak. Almost any other flag, the Brazilian flag for example, it wouldn't look 'like' that. But, it was probably commissioned from China, which had no historical context, just the lowest bid. I'm by no means a clothes horse, but I wouldn't even be caught dead in one of those things! Shayde Posted June 1, 2014 #23 Share Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) No, only one K in the UK. was that lame? It was. But since I thought of the same joke, I'm not going to complain... The question is though, why any boozed up, halfwitted, knuckleskulled numpty would wear something like this? Oh wait, we are talking about football fans... Of all the crap that some berk comes up with, they produce this. Oh dearie, dearie me! Edited June 1, 2014 by Shayde
