IhartU Posted May 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2006 'Crime': Author: Martin Fido: Dr. Arthur Warren Waite charmend the jury all the way to the verdict. Handsome, stylish and witty, with a first class tennis player's lithe frame, he made them laugh as he told of his difficulties in murdering his millionaire parents-in-law. When his mother-in-law, Mrs. John E. Peck, came to stay with the young dentist in New York after the New Year, he took her driving in the pouring rain with the windscreen open. Mrs. Peck declined to catch pneumonia. He put ground glass in her marmalade. He sprayed her throat with cultures of anthrax, diptheria and influenza. Mrs. Peck never looked better. Finally he gave her an overdose of veronal, and nursed her lovingly through her final illness, insisting that she be cremated on her death. Later this year, when widowed Mr. Peck came to visit his son-in-law, the old gentleman was treated to water in his galoshes and a car ride with a wet seat. He was offered concoctions of thyphiod, pneumonia and diptheria in his puddings. He was given damp sheets. Finally he was given a massive dose of arsenic. And when even that failed to kill the robust old man, Waite suffocated him with a pillow! Suspicious relative refused a second cremation and had the body examined. The arsenic was discovered, and the charming Dr. Waite, who intended killing his wife next, to use her inherited money supporting his expensive society mistress, has charmed his way to a death sentence. OldTimeRadio Posted October 25, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2006 Shortly before his execution our dashing, debonaire dentist claimed that the murders weren't really his fault, that he'd been FORCED to commit them. "A bad man from Egypt made me do these terrible things." Yes, that's what he said.
