Music And The Effects On Humans

The Lone Ranger

Recommended Posts

How come so many people can like so many different types of music? still masses can also like one song or artist.

people can have one or multiple preferences for types of music.

dont you think music has something special? it really seems to touch people.

Could other lifeforms experience the same? What would extraterrestrials think when they hear it (or our music)?

Music takes us places, and for different people different music. Music relates to how we are and what we are. Don't know how to explain, but being a musician I can surely say that certain people like certain music based on their personalities and perception of life.

You put that so well....

I play and write music.

music can take you away, it can make you FEEL. It can make you not FEEL. It can do anything you want it to. In my opinion, music is the best thing we have ever come up with. It lets us know who we are, maybe who we wanna be... Doesn't matter, it let's us live. It let's you be free no matter where you are or who you are. If you take art and then add life... You get music... Beautiful...

I can't play a note  but oh my how I wish I could. Music is the ocean on which our emotions move. Now rushing and exciting, later gently flowing on the tides. It is the best part of waking life, where all things seem possible- for a brief moment

I couldnt agree more. I also play and compose music. It is such a relaxing thing to do. When I am playing or composing I am totally lost in the music. Nothing else matters. Somebody could come in and rob the place but I wouldnt even know it :)

I like many types of music from classical to techno, early pop (60's to 80's), reggae, meditation synthesised and many more. I prefer instrumentals to those with words, Music can make you so emotional too. Sometimes when I hear a really nice piece it brings tears to my eyes. Not that I am crying, just that it touches me and I cant explain why or how. Some music seems like it is on the same wavelength as my brain. When that happens I am gone. I suppose it is a similar feeling to taking some drugs. I wouldnt know exactly as I have never been in that scene but it's the nearest thing I can describe it to.

I think animals can also have a preference in music. My old german shepherd was quite happy to sit in the room with certain music but wandered off into the garden for some peace and quiet with other types lol

I would like to think that if we were ever visited by other intelligent life that they too understood the concept of music. I would imagine they would because it is based on mathematics and sound waves. :)

edit. I should add that there is also music that makes me cringe.......jazz, rap, soul for example :)

You're a good musician :tu: I envy anyone who can just sit down and bring out a tune. Another friend of mine has a recording studio, he's brilliant. My son has keyboards and a digital piano, he's very good too. He got interested in that and took some piano lessons to learn the basics, the rest is self taught.

I tried the guitar for a while but it just wasn't me. Way back in my school days I had piano lessons, but they were kind of forced by one of the teachers who thought I had potential and he'd keep me in to practice while the rest of the kids were out on a break. We had a piano at home too which probably helped me a lot. Still, I did learn something, how to read sheet music etc. but my skills are very basic and limited.

I find listening to music very relaxing, depending on what type it is lol. If I'm feeling 'quiet' I'll put on headphones and shut myself off from my surroundings. Some songs/music take me back and remind me of things, it's nice to reflect on happy memories :)

It's funny. I envy people who can read music. But those who can read music say they envy me.

Edit....forgot to say thank you for the compliment. Where do I send the cheque to again?

When I listen to music, which I don't do often, I am usually touched in deep ways that always surprise. I find music healing, and moving to music a delight. I think we listen to music to get some feed back on what we actually long for....music does deal with our human longings in a very profound way. Good topic.

Peace

I use my music as a drug. Usually, I don't want to do much of anything if I'm in a bad mood, but plug in the music and I just get up and start doing everything, working, cleaning, working out and all without even thinking. Crazyness

Music can give me a dopamine rush! Rushes in my head. I don't think it is like that for most people...since most also don't know how a dopamine rush even feels like.

I honestly believe that in music and other works of art, a piece of the creator is left within it if they are feeling strong emotion at the time. Songs always sound different when the musician is emotional, even in instrumental music, where there are no verbal cues to pick up on. I don't look at much as far as paintings and drawings go, so I can't say anything about them, but I know there is a similar effect with literature. It's a sad thing when somebody dies, sure, but when an author has put so much of their time into creating a story and personality for a character, and then have to write their death for the sake of a story, it is more emotional to them, and I tend to feel it when I read it, though I have no clue if others experience the same.
