I know that relations with them is still thin, especially after the spy ring that was discovered in the U.S. a while back, but what's the point?

Yes that is what I would like to know. What is their point? Trying to be intimidating. You have to be afraid before something is intimidating.

This happens far more often that we hear about. There's one stationed in the GoM pretty much 24/7.

What you don't hear about is the two america attack subs that have been trailing the russian since they sailed out of port.

200 miles off the coast is intimidating? An "attack sub" is one designed for hunting other submarines or ships, incidentally, there may be some confusion with ballistic missile submarines or SSBNs.

According to my records, Sierra II is

Project 945A (Sierra II)

Nuclear powered hunter-killer submarine built Severodvinsk, 1987-93. Titanium hull, designed for high speed & deep diving. First pair displaced 8100t submerged, length 107m, second pair (945A, Sierra II) 9100t, 110m. PWR + single screw = 34k submerged.

Units:

945A Sierra II

K-336 Pskov 1993 Active, Northern Fleet B-336 from 1992

K-534 Nizhny Novogorod 1990 Active, Northern Fleet B-534 from 1992

Is there a reason to worry if their cat runs thru' your alleyway ?. The Russians wont start anything these days they are too interested in selling heating gas and oil to everyone.

Indeed, just like China. Provoking Military action against your biggest customers would be very silly.

After collapse of Soviet Union the TU95 air patrols over North Atlantic were stopped. US did not stop their patrols at all, then have cheek to complain when Russian patrols begin again a few years back. As for submarines, can US still not detect Oscar II class vessels.... Western rescue submarine that was allowed to dive on Kursk failed to detect the stricken vessel with it's instruments when it was only a few meters above Kursk. Besides, to complain of Russian submarine 200 miles of US coast is yet more cheek. What was USS Memphis doing only a few tens of kms off the Kola peninsula on 12th August 2000...

Not long ago the Russians were sending "Bears" close to the United kingdom and had to be escorted, number of times has to be said. Also they flew to Venezuela not long ago.

A Russian warship entered Portsmouth Harbour in England last month I think, but it was there for a ceromony. And in 2008 I think a Chinese warship came too

It is rather typical of the U.S. attitude that the U.S. feels it is entitled to go where it likes and do what it likes, but if anyone tries to do the same to them then it's a Provocation and intimidation.

Still, i expect the Northern Fleet will be quite pleased that it needs just one of their submarines to Intimidate the great American Eagle.

In 2008 two TU-160 (White Swans), name of Aleksandr Molodchiy and Vladimir Senko flew to Caracas for a goodwill and training mission. As for Bears, well, they never went over UK airspace, though UK yellow press had hysterics and made some sort of claim about going to be bombed, or something.....

And they like to show pictures of obsolete vessels rusting, yet fail to show photos of new Borei class SSBN or Schuka-B (Akula)

Yuri Dolgorukiy new Borei class SSBN

Don't know what your try to say there. My point is our navy is at least 5 times the size of russia. One little sub off our coast isn't going to phase us.

Does not matter on the size

Does not matter on the size

It's the motion in the ocean that counts. Besides, Chuck Norris AND Jack Bauer are swimming out to the sub right now. Chuck has on boots and Jack has a swiss army knife. Game over man.
